How big of an Active Directory domain do you support?

I'm not talking about in branch orginizationos or sistercompanies, but how many users/computers do you support directly in an AD domain?

Currently supporting a 5000 user multisite/multidomain forest, leading an effort to migrate it to a 20,000 user multisite forest spread globally.

2,000 users, but they are Academics and Students, so let's just call it 12,000.
