Body scanners can store, send images, group says

eMeS Member Posts: 1,875 ■■■■■■■■■□Hmm....I'd have to disagree. The Jihadists seek only to kill 'infidels' starting with the Jews, moving onto the Christians, and then all other non-Muslims. By blowing themselves up with explosives they become 'martyrs' and are then entitled to 72 perpetual virgins and all the wine they can drink in paradise. Then again, if that's their definition with 'control,' then I agree with you.
They're trying to control my time of death....

Pash Member Posts: 1,600 ■■■■■□□□□□It's like us Americans reading a history book and saying, 'hey, it says in this book that we're at war with the British -- let's go kill them!'
Hey hey hey now then. Bring it on! James Bond would infiltrate the white house get Michelle pregnant in 5 seconds, look extremely cool while doing it and then we would send our impressive imperial naval fleet of.....1 fishing boat and 1 tug boat (just encase the fishing boat runs into anything) in to finish yawl off.
The sun never sets in the British empire!.........ok it does now
But serially, I think this topic is straying. I think everybody should be mindful that as the world technically advances, our privacy will be even less respected. Hell, just purchasing a cup of coffee or a book from amazon is all logged, audited, used as market data.......you can't avoid it and If you think you can, you probably have a tin foil hat and live with your grandma.
Personally if anyone want's to see me in my smalls going through an airport (which would be extremely hot btw) then I hope I bring a smile to your face!DevOps Engineer and Security Champion. https://blog.pash.by - I am trying to find my writing style, so please bear with me. -
Forsaken_GA Member Posts: 4,024I think you've misunderstood the statement.
Liberty is freedom from control. The jihadists are the ones that are seeking control, particularly in terms of picking time of death.
IMO, it's the jihadists that have sacrificed essential liberty of action in an effort to be temporarily safe from The Great Satan. They deserve neither liberty nor safety, and will get neither.

I think Ben's quote still applies. If liberty is freedom from control, then we give up quite a bit of control when we set foot in an airport terminal. It is a loss of liberty and freedom to be subject to the security measures that we are.
And yeah, I understand the entire security thing, but I still see the TSA as a blight that's just getting worse. The fact that american's have to give up some personal liberty and freedom in order just to travel through the air is a win for the terrorists. We've succumbed to fear, and the media and the politicians have been using that fear as a tool to club society into submission ever since.
All it took was a few hi-jacked airplanes to change the face of society. Can't wait to see what happens when the bad guys manage to blow up a land based target.
As to the topic, I'm waiting for the first **** site that features full body scan pics. Rule 34... it'll happen sooner or later -

The hype is the thing. If the terrorist gets through it's very bad. If they get caught trying to get through it's a success for the good guys but, the knock on effect of change in procedures and ongoing disruption to normal operations is the same. They win either way and the hype the press gives to it just increases their victory. All these press reports on exactly how these things were done and how they bypassed security efforts are like training videos to those that would be of a mind to do it themselves. Madness !!
The Christmas day one where the guy had the explosives in some kind of nappy in his pants, (so he knew his knackers were going to get it first) that didn't get detected and wouldn't get detected with these new measures apparantly, just shows the level of committment of these guys are willing to go to, so that they go down, take as many innocents with them, cause as much outrage and cause as much ongoing disruption to daily life as possible. Our level of outrage = their level of celebration I would suspect.
Will the only safe way to travel be that once you are inside the air transport system, all passengers must be completely naked throughout their journey. Measures and impositions can get more and more rediculous as they go along. Every new bit of technology invented to detect threats will immediately be bypassed with new threats that don't get detected. In our industry, we know this very well.
SO, is the answer then, that we should never travel or should we just not over react but stay realistic of the threats and be vigilant to what we may think is out of the ordinary and go about our daily lives accepting it isn't perfect and if your number is up... your number is up.Kam. -

Fair point though. To be absolutely certain, I am sure there are some extremists in the security arena that would advocate this. And yet another easy victory for the terrorists.Kam. -

Well that's the part that gets me. I mean, come on, stuffing explosives in your tighty whiteys is decidedly low tech. Their solution is a technical one that doesn't even pick up the **** he's had anyway. The response shouldn't have been a high tech one, counter it with low tech. I've had to deal with the crotch grab body search every single time I've attended a metal concert, and the cops are apparently pretty effective at catching weapons that way.
My solution is pretty simple. I don't fly. I've been on a plane precisely 4 times since 9/11, and 2 of those were connecting flights, so only 2 times through security. Airplanes are already a 'papers please' industry, I just want to avoid the rest of the damned country following that trend. -

This reminded me of a movie, where they had x-ray panels that shows the skeletons of all passengers passing through. -
RouteThisWay Member Posts: 514As a frequent traveler, what bothers me more than the scanner is the lack of options. There used to be a program called "Clear" for regular travelers. You could pay a fee, have a background check done, and effectively avoid the security lines. Sadly the company running this went out of business earlier this year.

You would think as crazy as TSA is (unless maybe this politically incorrect?? they would run the prosthetic through the X-ray machine. -
SephStorm Member Posts: 1,731 ■■■■■■■□□□Prostetic leg might not be able to go through the xray machine, you'd have to check the manual they leaked.
From what I have heard, the capacity to store and transmit those images is disabled before they are shipped to airports.
Now me personally, I have absolutly no issue with the scanners. So what, they can see my privates? At best its a hot TSA Chick (I have yet to see one) At worst its some pervy guy who gets a two minute look. Fact is, from what i've seen, these images are low resolution with very little detail, not that it matters, they are going to view thousands of those images a day, with very little time to get their rocks off.
I believe that in this case, the only reason the government wants these scanners is to protect passengers. While there may be a percentage of TSA personnel using them for nefarious purposes, they will eventually be caught and pay for that crime, in this world or the next. And the vast majority of the screeners will simply do their jobs. To put this blanket over the whole group in my opinion gives the american people the view that these TSA personnel are all a bunch of perverts.
Im hearing today a passenger got onboard an aircraft with shutgun ammo, i believe. Was missed by TSA. I think we need to focus on actual problems first, then the perceived ones. -

I use to have alot of support for doing everything possible until I experienced dealing with TSA while flying back and forth to see my girlfriend (now wife). I seem to not be the only one being harassed by TSA. I just need to remember my pocket audio recorder I guess.

That dude that recorded that is an idiot. I'm sure if he would have just answered their questions he would have been on his way in no time. I would have called him a smart ass too if he answered my questions like that. I guess you can cry about the foul language if you want to be picky. That's not really a big deal to me, but it is offensive to some people and the guy should have kept it a little more professional.
Some Americans need to be sent abroad to some lesser fortunate countries for a while so they can see just how good they have it. There are a lot of countries out there where that dude would have been thrown in jail or worse for that kind of attitude. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -

I disagree, this why we have a bill of rights in this country. Besides, being sarcastic (if you deem the person to have been) is no excuse for any official to behave unprofessionally. I grew up in a law enforcement family, and have gone through some police training (decided it just wasn't what I wanted to do). The TSA agents behavior was completely unacceptable. -

I think the guy deserved to be called a smart ass because that is exactly what he was being. If he didn't want to be disrespected he shouldn't have been an idiot about the whole thing and realized these people are there for his own safety. The guy asked him why he had the money. If he would have just said its campaign funds he would have probably been on his way immediately. Instead he had to keep smarting off wanting to know why they wanted to know. The guy was way out of line, and the TSA agent could have stayed a little more professional, but IMO he did nothing wrong. I don't see how anything that happened violated this persons rights. So I'm not sure why you brought that up. When you buy a plane ticket you should realize that there are safety mechanisms in place and that you just might have to explain why you have $5,000 cash on you.
This guy seemed like he thought he was above all the security or that he was special just for working on some guys campaign. I used to run into stuff like this all the time when I pulled guard duty while in the military. High ranking officers and civilians (and especially their wives!) would get pissy just like that because they didn't think they should have to be subject to random searches or have to show paper work. I'm sure these TSA people get smart asses like that guy all day every day. Everyone thinks they are special. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -

Given the bias in that article, that was probably the worst statement they could find in that entire recording. Gizmodo reported TSA questioned the man "for an hour" while CNN reported "almost half an hour." There wasn't any context of the situation either. If the TSA official really did treat this man in an inhumane manner, then I wouldn't mind reading the entire transcript. I'm sure it's floating on the Internet, but I don't care enough to look for it at the moment. If I were to place a bet, the man in question probably thought it was cute to push the buttons of the TSA official while recording the conversations on his iPhone. Once the guy answered the simple question (after making the official blow his top), he was released. I'm not defending what the official did, and he should be disciplined. But who in their right mind would want to be a jerk to the TSA when it hasn't even been a month since an attempted terrorist attack?
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that if you have nothing to hide, you shouldn't be afraid of any questioning. Yes, we all have the Bill of Rights on our side, but there are always gray areas. I'm sure you've seen the signs posted in the airports not to joke about bombs, so does that infringe on our rights to free speech? If you want to fly in an airplane, you have to play by their rules. Simple as that.Usus magister est optimus -

Shouldn't we all be free to let common sense dictate where and how we drive? Natural selection will take care of the people who can't figure out that the bigger or more heavily armed vehicle always has the right of way.
