I am not too familiar with IOS. I have 3 2620 and 1 2620XM
What is the differences between these IOSes:
c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-19.bin
c2600-advipservicesk9-mz.124-19.bin
c2600-advsecurityk9-mz.124-19b.bin

Can I use those IOSes on my routers?
Here are the show version of all my routers
2620XM

    This is an excellent link!

I haven't yet mastered the art of reading a Cisco IOS image and knowing what it does in the title, this link will definitely explain it all...

It is a must read.... I am shocked that Cisco has not made this part of the CCNA....

It says there that the memory requirements in table 3 is 32MB flash and 96MB DRAM. I think my 2620XM has 124MB of DRAM and 4MB flash. So there is no way for me to upgrade to advance.

Your "sh version" output on the 2620XM shows the router as having 128MB DRAM and 32MB Flash. Also I noticed your config register is 0X2142. You should change this to 0x2102.

Hang on now I am confuse 126976K/1024M = 124M right?

What exactly is that configuration register?
Also, how do I change it to 0x2102?

it's what allows you to bypass your NVRAM startup on reload.

    just issue this command.

    config-register 0x2101

The 4096K in 126976K/4096K is the amount of DRAM allocated for I/O memory. Your total DRAM is 128MB.
  • tim100tim100 Member Posts: 162

    just issue this command.

    config-register 0x2101

    0x2101 will bypass flash.

Ok I get it. So the last two 2620 that I have, have 32MB DRAM and 8MB flash.

According to the link that mikem2te provided.
    At the table 3
    Advanced Enterprise Services
    C2600-adventerprisek9-mz
    32MB
    96MB
So it means that I can install this on my 2620XM router, right?

How big is that .bin file? As long as it's smaller than your 8MB flash you can. Or if you go with the .tar that has more files.

If you don't have enough room, you might have to delete your current image, then copy over the new image....but make sure you copy your current image to your TFTP server first for backup...

It is 28.7MB. So it will fit on my 2620XM, right? Because it does have 32MB flash.
I don't know how backup the IOS to TFTP.

BTW, I use the thing called TFTP32 TFTP server on my 2950EI

Oh, I don't think it will fit then. I could be wrong though? If your flash is only 8MB it won't fit that 28MB file.....that .bin has to go into your flash, nowhere else...

I use that TFTP server as well it's perfect. The one by solarwinds right?

To backup your current image just do this:

    copy flash tftp

Then it will just ask you for your TFTP server's IP address and the name of the bin you want to back up.

To get the exact name of your bin, just type:

    show flash

Oh ok it will fit. You'll have to delete your current image though so first back it up like I said earlier.

    Then delete it:

    delete flash:"name of your .bin"

I'm on the 2620XM console right now.
I have setup the fastethernet 0/0 and gave it an ip address 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0

I have connected the crossover cable to the fa0/0 and the other end to my netbook.
My netbook has an ip address of 192.168.0.102 255.255.255.0

I can't ping my 2620XM(192.168.0.1) using the cmd nor ping my netbook(192.168.0.102)using teraterm.

    EDIT:
I made a stupid mistake. The reason why I could not ping my netbook was, it was connected to my wireless network, and my linksys gave it an ip address of 192.168.0.102/24. I turned off the wireless switch of my netbook and the IP became APIPA. that is why I could not ping my netbook.

Ok now I screwed my router. I deleted the IOS after I copy the old IOS to my desktop.
After I execute reload, I can't do anything anymore. I can still type something but that's about it. It keep saying command not found.
    It looks like this now:

You reloaded without putting in your IOS!!? LOL

It's ok, you're in ROMMON mode. Just do a "?" and you'll see some SET commands. Set the IP address of your TFTP server so it can point to it, you can still copy your IOS over to router this way...

    After that type:

    tftpdnld

If the download does not start try pinging the router from your netbook. Sometimes the interface needs to receive a packet in order to become active in rommon.

I execute tftpdnld should I hit y to continue?

Nothing happened. i still have my TFTP32 on though.

    EDIT:
Also, when I pinged the router it said unreachable. I changed my netbook's ip address to 10.1.1.90 255.255.255.0. The router has 10.1.1.89 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway is 10.1.1.1

This makes no sense? You were able to backup the IOS onto your TFTP server so how could you not access it now? Is your wireless off?

Don't worry about the default gateway part. It's all on the same network anyways...

Let the process complete and then make sure your configuration register is 0x2102 or just type "confreg 0x2102" before you reload.

While in rommon I type in confreg 0x2102 followed by reload; however, the reload command was not found.
