I have mine -- so I guess we can mention that you can run 2 of the 16 port $500 on eBay NMEs in a 3725 or 3745 and have 2 16 port 3750 switches for less than $1400.
    As I've already mentioned -- I have mine. :D

There are a couple of NME-16-ES-1G-P switch modules listed on eBay for $309 buy it now. One ends in a few hours. The other one in 2 days.

There are $185 3745 128/64 routers and $225 3745 256/128 routers also available buy it now if you need a supported router to put 1 or 2 of those switch modules in.

So the equivalent of 2 16 port 3750 switches and a 3745 router (256/12icon_cool.gif to house them can now be put together for $843 (if I added correctly). Both items are free shipping.

Edit: Okay, the 3745 with 256D/128F is $215 -- so $833 (or $524 if you only get one of the switch modules and the beefy 3845 to put it in).

Though is not related to the thread. Is it possible to do the CCIE lab with three 2651XM with 256MB/48MB and 3725, 3745, 3660 routers. What am I going to be missing. I bought one 3745 with 512 Ram and 64MB Flash about 3 days ago. It's on its way.
    In my Lab
I have access to any cisco equipment I need

I know this is an older post and several topics have been bounced around in it but for anyone who has built a

3745 12.4 Advanced Enterprise with 1X or 2X of the NME-16ES-1G-P modules using the 3750 EMI.

Would you do it again or spend the money on a 3560 EMI?

I am about to add some switches to my lab 4X 2621XM and 2X 2950T although saving money by building the router would be nice. I find when I start to study and do labs I want to focus on the concepts and commands. I am worried that building this would add an extra layer of complexity that could be distracting.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

I think that if you’re in the market for 2 switches it’s definitely worth checking out since you can run 2 modules independently in a singe 3700 chassis. It really doesn’t add much complexity – Instead of consoling directly into the switch, you console into the router, and then start a session to one of the “service modules” - or telnet/ssh into the module like normal. Everything else looks and feels like you’re using a 3750 (minus the physical stack port).

A couple of things to consider if PoE is needed – You need to also upgrade the router’s power supply to an AC-IP (inline power) version which will make it a bit more expensive. Also, the 3700s only support Cisco pre-standard power so if you plan on using any of the new phones which support IEEE802.3af ONLY they will not work.
