Salary at 3 years of IT

jmritenour Member Posts: 565I was making nowhere near that after 3 years in "IT", but my first admin job was more like "general do everything related to computers and technology" for a local company that was trying to do everything, including their staffing, for as cheap as possible. The pay sucked, but it was invaluable experience, and I had didn't have any formal education or certs, so I stuck it out there for a few years.
Then I moved into public education as a desktop tech. I was making 35K a year to start, which was not bad for the very rural area I live in. After a few years, they moved me up to network specialist - in title, at least, it was really more like a network/systems admin role - and got a prety decent pay increase, and was making about 47K. Then our county had massive budget cuts, and we had a salary freeze the last 3 years I was there.
I'm in the commercial world again, and I'm not going to post exactly what I make, in case any of my co-workers ever stumble across this, but I'm happy with where I am, salary wise. Don't get me wrong - I definitely want to make more, and that will come in time. But I like what I'm doing, I like the company I'm at now, and I like the exposure I'm getting in different things. But at the end of the day, me and my family have a roof over our head, and food on the table - I really don't need much more than that to be happy."Start by doing what is necessary, then do what is possible; suddenly, you are doing the impossible." - St. Francis of Assisi -

It's nice to know that with a passion for Information Technology, you can enjoy your job and also enjoy the chedda that roles with it!"You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done" -
Akaricloud Member Posts: 938I'm almost exactly 3 years in now and am making ~43k. Given a lot of it was part time and I'm still in school about to finish my degree up.
After my degree is done then I'll work on some certifications and plan on moving up quick.
