Every December I try to reflect on the year and see what I did well and what I can improve on in the coming year. Although I likely did not see a consumption of 10,000 pages of reading, I still think it was a successful year. So what is on your reading agenda for 2012? Here is my short list. I haven't gotten any further with planning it out. Maybe ya'll will provide me with some ideas

This should be required reading for every single American HS child in their American History course.
Since this was published in the Atlantic, have either of you seen the Civil War edition of the Atlantic that just came out? There are reprints of works from Stowe, Du Bois, Douglas, et. al. Some of the most influential thinkers of the time and their writings from just before when The Souls of Black Folk was written. -

Oh come now Robert. Surely you must know that could never happen. Then we would have to spend more than 6 pages on slavery in the history books. Then we couldn't pretend that the effects of 400+ years of slavery doesn't effect people today. Lol. Sigh....
I do agree with you though. We had to read it in one of my English classes (well part of it). Honestly I think that in high school, you are either to busy trying to screw anything that moves or SAT scores for introspective reading and thinking. I think you have to live a little longer (or just be very mature) to deal with topics such as those in the Souls.RobertKaucher wrote: »Since this was published in the Atlantic, have either of you seen the Civil War edition of the Atlantic that just came out? Well, I was busy chasing girls but I was also quite introspective and I was never fooled by the idea that the legacy of slavery no longer existed nor did I fall for the crap that we should not judge people in the past for their failings. The idea that we can only celebrate the Founding Fathers for the great things they did and we have to ignore their failings because they lived in another time was always stupid to me.Bl8ckr0uter wrote: »
