Why do you guys hang out in TE?
I came across TE a few months ago. And frankly, I have became a bit addicted to it. And I cant quite figure out why?

I also like to discuss things with like-minded people. Technology has so many different ways to do things... and it's nice to hear what other people's ideas are. I LOVE looking at different network diagrams (like at ratemynetworkdiagram.com) and see how others are setting up their networks. -

YuckTheFankees Member Posts: 1,281 ■■■■■□□□□□TE is addicting because the members are knowledgeable, motivated, and we all have a lot in common. I have gone through a phase of wanting to do 5-10 different certifications and whichever one I have a question on...there are tens or hundreds of members to give opinions and personal experience on the subject.
Not to mention how fast people reply to new threads. If you have a question about security, I swear JD Murray has an alert on his phone because he answers so quick. -

TE is by the best forum I have found for certifications, tech questions and career advice. Remember the saying you become the people you hang out with? If I only listened to the people at my jobs I would be a tech doing teh same thing for 20 years not learning anything new and waiting for retirement. TE users tend to be very knowledgeable and motivated to reach their goals.Currently reading: Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action -
Forsaken_GA Member Posts: 4,024I hang out on TE for a few reasons:
#1 - I like to help folks learn.
#2 - We tend to do quite well in Google search results, so participation here is a good way to get correct information available to the masses. The more people that are competent, the easier my job will be overall, regardless of whether the people viewing the answers are forum regulars or not.
#3 - By helping others understand the answers to the questions they ask, it helps to reinforce my own knowledge of the subject. By learning, you will teach. By teaching, you will learn. -

Motivation.
People have a vast wealth of knowledge.
Questions. Someone will usually try to answer a question. even if it has been asked, asked, and beaten the a stick, raised from the dead and smacked with a banjo. In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

You weren't suppose to know that...
I'm a huge fan of TE for all the reasons that Essendon mentioned. TE provides me with an online network of like minded IT Professionals that have a passion for learning that I don't think I could find in my area. -

At first I came here to learn as I knew nothing about certifications. Now I like to give back the knowledge that members shared with me. Hopefully I can help guide people on a path to a good career like I have built for myself.
It also keeps me on my toes making sure I know the answers to all the tech questions people ask on the forums. I would have probably forgot a lot of the CCNA minutia if not for reading these boards. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -
Asif Dasl Member Posts: 2,116 ■■■■■■■■□□I hang out here because out of all my IT friends, not only am I the biggest nerd, I'm probably the most knowledgeable of them, but here I feel like I don't know s**t sometimes. And if you want to become better at something - you have hang out with people who are better at things you don't know about until you have raised the bar another notch and you get to their level...

quinnyfly Member Posts: 243 ■■■□□□□□□□I reckone Essondon has summed it up very nicely, plus its a top spot to sit and roost for awhile and learn from others. We are also very lucky to have folks like Darril Gibson, and many other contributors and authors who write the text books we use to gain our certs.
It's not everyday you get access to the knowledge these people are willing to share.
