Will Windows 8 go the way of Windows ME and Windows Vista?

It seems the majority skips a version of Windows. Win 98 was popular, Windows ME was a failure (although I personally liked it better than 9 XP was obviously massive, Vista was a let down. I shall wait then, I am really annoyed because I have a virtual pc vhd with almost 90 GB of data that I can not access now, vmware convertor does not recognize it, I guess I will install windows 7 on a different partition to be able to get that data back.
