. . . That said, I think anyone who is still on XP is an idiot. Sorry, but my opinion.

    That's harsh.

XP runs faster on older hardware than 7 or 8 will. It requires less hardware just to boot. Software designed for XP is less bloated, so you might be able to get something on CD that would require a DVD now. If you need a small random Windows VM for something odd, XP fills the bill nicely.

I realize there are security and stability concerns, but if you're not connecting the system to the 'net or have a very limited set of uses for it, you'll probably be OK.
Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there.

I concur, XP still has usefulness, particularly with VMs, or for pen-testing, though I would be reluctant to run it in production environments.

Sigh --- I am in the same boat as JD --- 2 folders and stacks of discs with non matching lists of serials! Argh!

Technet was great --- I guess the only good option now is Dream Spark and, if you can afford it or your company buys it for you, MSDN.
    2017 Goals:
    [ ] Security + [ ] 74-409 [ ] CEH
    Future Goals:
    TBD
