Re: Passed
Billy, I think you should look at GIAC certification instead CISM. If you are going for ISACA route, then it worth to do CISA instead CISM. In my opinion CISM is overlap with CISSP. These certifications are mainly for management, it is not worth to have overlap. The same thing with CompTIA CASP and GIAC GISP. I did CompTIA… -
Passed 2V0-621D / VCP6-DCV!
My VMware VCP5-DCV (classes from Stanley) was expiring at the end of the month so today I picked up my VCP6-DCV. Now that I have moved into a dedicated security role, I'm not sure how much I'll need this cert in the future but I didn't want to let it lapse either. I've been the VMware SME at my company for the last year… -

Offered new job (IT Security Manager)
Just verbally accepted a IT security management position for a large health care provider. The position is aligned with where I want to head. Instead of managing support teams I am transitioning to managing IT access management and provision teams. I am very excited about the opportunity and can't wait to get going. I am… -
Security Tools to protect your home network and your devices
We all use really sophisticated security tools at work, IPS/IDS, firewalls, SIEMs, PMP tools, IAM tools, GPO's etc. with various alerting methods, thresholds, analytics and reporting. We all know those tools are expensive and seriously many times only offered for big companies. What I would like to know is what you all use… -
Where do I go from here?
Hey all, I've been a CISSP since March of 2012 and am looking to take the next step. I'm currently a info security analyst but would like to eventually be a CISO and take the next step into the six-figure realm. I currently work in healthcare (seems to be more money here) but have also worked as a DoD contractor for one of… -
Re: How Much to Study for Foundations Exam?
Just took it, passed with a 90% 36/40. My system isn't recommended at all, but I'm applying to a job now that wants it and closes in 2 days so I had to ASAP it for the weekend. Here it was: 2 days listening to the livelesson videos (whole thing is like 16 hours! Sped it up to 2.56 and had a talking chipmunk), Part of day… -
Re: Would the world of certifications be better if all expired after a period of time?
I like the approach that Microsoft has taken with versioning their certifications. If someone is an MCSE on Server 2003, I feel confident that they can work their way around Server 2008, but an MCSE on NT4, not so much. The other thing that I really like with this approach is that it shows longevity. MCSE NT4, 2000, 2003,… -
Re: Mid 20s, feeling stuck in IT support and really needing some career advice...
what do you want to do? you mentioned you don't want to manage, ok... keep in mind you will be missing out on a big chunk of change. i'm seeing a lot of IT being outsourced, less dedicated IT staff or perhaps just desktop techs. So if you like the engineering aspect i would suggest you try to find a managed service… -
