Certifications for Federal Law Enforcement
Hello Tech Exams, I was wondering if anyone had experience working in or with law enforcement, specifically at a federal level. I want to work towards a job as a 1811 criminal investigative in cyber crimes. What certifications are law enforcement agencies looking for? What events or contest (CTF?) would put me on the radar… -
Training opportunity but unsure which training to go with
I was recently talking to my boss and the topic of security training came up. Basically, he said find something, let him know what it is and he will make it happen this year yet. I was like great, but then I realized, I don't know which one will best suite my needs. To give a little background, I have been having… -
eCPPT - Journey towards InfoSec starts now.
Hello, all. Been a long while since I posted here. Just passed the CCNA Security a couple of weeks ago. I'm finally to a point where i have a good foundation to purse an InfoSec career. About a month ago I received an email from Ethical Hacker. Net about a free course PTS(barebone edition) from E-Learn-Security. I jumped… -
infosec certs for an attorney with no IT experience - any suggestions?
Hi everyone! Longtime lurker who has learned a lot from this forum. Awesome place. I'm an attorney, Oxford and Berkeley trained, who is looking to blend the two technical aspects of our respected professions. I've come across a lot of lawyers who are "cybersecurity lawyers," but don't have any certs. Not that certs are… -
Re: It's official, I am going for SEC560 in New Orleans
@SteveLavoie I was in Vegas and I just had my 'eye on the prize!' The nights are filled with your choice of PenTesting or Forensics. I went to both and hut my head. I did well but I was in it to learn and have fun with some others. SANS only offers wine and beer because I guess there are some folks who were mean drunks in… -
Re: Why don't they update RIP to use a better metric?
I have audited and pentested some of the largest financial networks in the country and have seen RIP deployed more frequently than any other protocol combined, not counting static routes (which aren’t a protocol per se). In the banking world you almost don’t see any routing protocols in institutions worth less than $500m.… -
Re: Once I finish CISSP, can I quit getting certifications?
I think this question speaks pretty deeply to the soul of a lot of people on here. I think quite a few would like to quit but can't. Just one more hit! IT is pretty bad for professional development requirements. Some roles aren't as bad as others. High level security policy and governance type stuff is probably less… -
Re: Entry level security roles? Typical day of a Security Analyst?
Security is a big field, with lots of different roles. SOC is not like Incident response, which is not like firewall admin, which is not like governance, which is not like pentesting, etc. SANS has a roadmap that does an okay job of breaking down what the different fields are. I've worked in a SOC and Incident Response.… -
Re: InfoSec Institute now Offering GIAC Courses
As for SANS/GIAC they are officially two separate entities. One of the reasons my company allows for education assistance to count towards SANS/GIAC and not eLearnSecurity is because they offer the certification as a stand alone item. Infosec Institute offering training for a GIAC certification can be viewed the same as… -
My journey to OSCP - Part 1: eCPPT
Pre-amble So I finally managed to get a chance to write my review of the eCPPT. Just for information my journey started many years ago, around 2011, when I purchased PWB (before PWK) as I wanted to improve my skills within pentesting. However, considering I had little knowledge of Linux and programming and the birth of my…
