Re: Just when I was getting frustrated...
Although it helps to have those 3-5 years of experience, what they mention in the job opening is usually the description of their ideal candidate. The one who gets the job is usually the one who happens to have experience with the software, hardware, or technologies, that the company actually uses. I'm not saying one can… -
Re: GSEC Experience
What does being on the advisory board entail? So GSEC was an excellent cert. This is the first cert I have ever taken, though I did take an A+ class years ago. I just never bothered to sit for the test as my employer did not require it. Anyway this test is quite broad in terms of what it covers, I believe 64 topic areas… -
Re: WGU MS:ISA grads and students, any regrets?
I completed the MSISA from WGU in 6 months. I estimate that I wasn't "working" on the degree/assignments during about 2.5 months of that time due to holidays/prior commitments/etc so I could have finished faster. I have the CISSP and I work in the industry so I was already pretty knowledgeable since the program is designed… -
Re: Studying/motivation tips
Chev... The one time that I know I did have the time to study, without interruptions is when I was sent to a class and had to stay in a hotel, away from EVERYTHING. Albeit, I did still find myself getting bored and playing on the hotel WiFi. That or going to the library is / was the ONLY time I had a zero-irruption for… -
Re: Study/Career Goals over the Next 3 Years
Since you already have IT experience and aren't just learning the ropes, given even an average amount of effort I would say your goals are easily achieved. As a frame of reference in a 3 year span I: -Finished my BSBA (1 semester) -CISSP -Completed the entire WGU MSISA -CEH -CHFI -ITIL F -GSEC -GCIA And that was with… -
Re: Has anyone ever been called out on for having certifications?
I work with guys that have been in the IT industry for 15-20+ years and most of them think certs are for idiots. They are some of the most knowledgeable people I have and most likely will ever meet. We are constantly arguing about this very subject and here is the reality... ...most certs are solely there to make companies… -
Passed Security+ exam
Just got home from taking the test. This was my first attempt at taking it. I was nervous as hell because I failed the Network+ twice (barely passed it the 3rd time) and I really couldn't afford to take the Security+ certification training more than once. I've been studying off and on for about 6 months. I probably… -

Co worker CISSP 1st certification/competition
So I have a co worker (I won't say their name) but he works on the blue team for our company and he is planning on taking the CISSP certification as his first certification hoping that he can move to the red team. He is also doing his Master's degree currently as well where I am not. Now although I don't work on the blue… -
Failed CISSP the other day.
I failed the CISSP the other day but here are some of my notes and takeaway's, hopefully it helps others preparing for the exam. Its a fast kind of sloppy write up, I will clear more details later...
