Jay Wilson one of their lead designers for D3 talks about their art direction in a video interview. He explains their art direction in a pretty good way. He explains that when Diablo 2 came out, people constantly complained about it being so much more colorful than D1 which is true.

The video is worth the time watching.

I thought the old system was fine, but it'll be interesting to see how this affects game play.

These "checkpoints" seem to be the same thing as Rebirth Fountains in Titan Quest. When you get to a fountain it automatically activates and that is your respawn point. You can also reactivate previously visited fountains, but only one fountain can be active at a time. This respawn model works great and I don't think too many people will have a problem with it.

My concern is if we'll still be required to clog up our precious-little inventory space with teleport scrolls. In Titian Quest, you have a Portal device that will transport you to any waypoint that you've previously visited--no inventory space required. To me, having to buy/find/carry teleport scrolls in D2 is more of an aggravation than a difficulty factor.

Yea, it seemed some of the commentors (I think I saw this on Evil Avatar) drew parallels to the TQ system.

The scrolls were sort of a pain, but the tomes made them much more manageable. If nothing else, I just want the ability to play inventory-Tetris and rearrange my stuff better

TQ has an "inventory shuffler" feature that is useful for creating contiguous space in your inventory. TQ, like Guild Wars, also divides the character's inventory into separate sacks so you can keep items like healing potions and scrolls in a manually-sorted sack and all the rest of your temporary, sell-for-gold items in auto-sorted sacks. There is also a caravan that lets you off-load items from your character to a storage vault, and also allows any of your characters to share items with any of your other characters. It all works very well.

If someone has already posted this before in the same topic, forgive me. I just saw it while googeling a possible release date for D3. I thought it was a pretty cool deduction..even if its insane. Some people have WAY too much time on thier hands.

Yeah, I'd really like to know how he derived that particular anagram of the thousands possible, and why no screenshot of the error message to validate his story. Still, he get points for coming up with such a convoluted tale.
