MCSD: Web Applications
MCSD: Windows Metro style Apps using HTML5
They have changed the designation from MCTS to MS - Microsoft Specialist. -

2years ago, I started with studying the ASP.net framework (web forms and mvc) and after that I made some apps for my company.
The years before that, I made some basic websites for several people (with xHTML and CSS2).
So you can say that I had a good basic knowledge of HTML and CSS3.
Now I'm looking for a new opportunity, because my company went into liquidation ( I don't know if this is the right way to say it )
I hope and think that this certificate will help me with my search for this new opportunity. (problem is that I currently doesn't have a bachelor degree)
Beside I'm also a certified Windows developer 4 (MCPD?). -
RobertKaucher Member Posts: 4,299 ■■■■■■■■■■I'm sure you'll find something with your experience and certs.
Do you intend on completing the MCSD: Web Applications certification? I'm starting on the MVC4 studies right now. I took a course on MVC2 a while ago so this should not be too terribly difficult now that we are starting to use the MVC web API here at work with our LOB integration stuff.
If you do intend on doing the 70-486 let me know and we can cooperate on a study guide for that. The 487, though, is going to be the real butt kicker for me. I have no professional experience and it does not look like there will be any official study guides for that any time soon. -
jalle Member Posts: 11 ■□□□□□□□□□Hi Robert
Great post ! it surely helped me I passed to day with 900 score. It was relater easy exam
Now I am again confused regarding MS certification
recently I passed 70 536 70 562 and now I have 480 too.
It seems that only way to get certified ASP.NET web developer (MCSD isn't it) is to go
for 70 486 and 70 487
What do you think ?
PS: I would like to work together with you on next exam if you wish -
RobertKaucher Member Posts: 4,299 ■■■■■■■■■■MCSD: Web Applications 480 + 486 + 487 (new generation of exams for HTML5 and cloud technologies as well as traditional web platform)
MCPD: ASP.Net 3.5 536 + 562 + 564 (You only need the 564 which retires in July 31, 2013! )
I'd say you might as well go for it since it is just one exam.
I'd love to collaborate on the next study guide with you. Give me a few days and I'll set something up for us. -

Web developing is a thing that I really want to do. I just viewed the MCSD track and I think it's good for me to complete this track. I'm interested to cooperate on a study guide for 486. Do you use some sort of collaboration tool? Or just a shared doc in hotmail/gmail?
The only thing that might could be a problem is time. For the moment I don't have a job, but I'm following a 4year course (for getting my degree in Applied Informatics) and I have a website for a company to make.
When do you want to do the exam 70-486? Within a month, 3 months, 6 months, ..? -
Tarantino Registered Users Posts: 3 ■□□□□□□□□□Hello. I have experience in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, as well as ASP. They are quite old technologies, and now I've decided to update my skills so I want to pass this exam. Is annoying the few resources that we could find. I've just started studying with the following free ebook .
Free ebook: Programming Windows 8 Apps with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript - Microsoft Press - Site Home - MSDN Blogs
I want to take this exam in February or March. Do you think is possible to pass this exam in about two months of study??. -

If you have previous experience in HTML, CSS and Javascript, u can certainly pass the exam with two months of study.
I did it in 3 weeks (I also had previous experience with xHTML, CSS2 and a bit of Javascript).
Check also Robert his study guide, it is very useful. -
susanreednet Registered Users Posts: 1 ■□□□□□□□□□Hi Guys! I just heard about the 70-480 a few days ago and I think I'm going to go for it. I have never taken a Microsoft Cert. test but have always wanted to. I Googled the test # and found this forum. This is great! I like all the referencess here that can guide me to what to study. Anyone know where you can take a practice exam of this? I've heard Microsoft tests are weird. (not sure what that means exactly). I saw some study guides in PDFs for sale on ebay. Wondering if that was worth it.

Slowhand Mod Posts: 5,161 ModAt this point, I wouldn't trust random PDFs from eBay, (the exam isn't old enough for there to be anything but self-made study guides.) Wait for the MS Press book to come out if you're looking for a more comprehensive cert-prep guide. You could always look at the Apress book, but it's a general knowledge guide, not specifically geared towards the exam.

RobertKaucher Member Posts: 4,299 ■■■■■■■■■■Welcome, susanreednet!
Using the promo code on the MS Virtual Academy web site schedule the test for about 2 months out. Just to ensure you get it for free. Start with the Virtual Academy Jump Start and this resource thread.
Use the free trial that comes from PluralSight and then sign up for a month of their training. Watch every video you can on HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. This will be better than buying ANY book on the topic.
Go through and build a web site (it does not need to be professional grade/public) but make sure you use every feature that they talk about focus on jQuery and Ajax as well as web workers and error handling. In two months, with those resources, I think nearly anyone can pass this test.
If you are a web developer and use jQuery and JavaScript regularly a week of study might be enough. -
Tarantino Registered Users Posts: 3 ■□□□□□□□□□Ok, I was a buit woried about my "pre .NET" experience would be no experience at all. And I realize that is not enought to just read an study a book (even if it's a 800 pages book... ), i will need to preactice...

RobertKaucher Member Posts: 4,299 ■■■■■■■■■■One thing I have not mentioned that I found to be important in studying for this exam was using IE10. If you don't have IE10 installed someplace then get it (Win7 and Win8 only)! Then use JSFiddle.net and go through and do mini labs on things like -ms-grid or the MS implementation of the Error object in JavaScript. I'm trying to implement this in my new version of the study guide.
You can find the draft copy of the new version of this study guide here. -
silicon_valley Member Posts: 5 ■□□□□□□□□□Hello guys,
I am just a 1st year uni student, and I am new to all this. Anyway I was wondering if I can pass this test just by learning from https://www.microsoftvirtualacademy.com/tracks/developing-html5-apps-jump-start?o=1943 in which I mean the videos they have provided. Any help will be appreciated -
RobertKaucher Member Posts: 4,299 ■■■■■■■■■■Welcome to TE!
The short answer is no. That is not enough information to pass the exam even if you had the code examples and dialog completely memorized.
Use those videos and the links in my study guide and with a few weeks of study and practical labs you should do fine on the exam, though.
Here is the link to the latest version of my study guide: https://skydrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=ED3A7F585AEB6F1B!168&app=Word
Please note there are some sections in the posts above that I have not updated yet. So you may need to look in both places. -

Just passed 564 exam yesterday, and that makes me officially MCPD now
Thanks everybody and wish you good luck in future testing
exams are fun , at least for me -
vblord Registered Users Posts: 1 ■□□□□□□□□□I am going for it on the 29th of this month with around 6 days preparation, my experience lies in HTML(not 5) C#,VB.net and javascript with little bit jquery.
I have found that videos on the microsoft site aren't enough to plug in the gaps.
Hopefully I will have some good news to share, in the next couple of days if you gents/ladies have some pearls of wisdom please do share it with me and thanks to the original thread starter for compiling the resources. May you live to be a 1000 years old.:D -
