Insanity is crazy - I have done it. I am a runner so that's my main focus, but I do supplement some p90x in a few times a week. Insanity is just to craZy to supplement! Props for sticking with Insanity.Currently Reading: Again to Carthage - CCNA/Security -
Roguetadhg Member Posts: 2,489 ■■■■■■■■□□I don't know, I didn't get much out of insanity, now.. P90X+... that's what i'm talking about.
Staying on top: I just received my ccna security book :'DIn order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

I've done both, and I actually find Insanity to be more difficult...smh, it totally derailed my studying for a week!
Back on board today. -

Oh the USMC thing they do? I've seen it advertised on a billboard near charleston. I've never attended that.
These are very short chapters, I'd say mini-chapters. I was looking at the number of chapters (21) and the average number of pages for the first 10 chapters chapter are 15 for a total of 151 theory pages. I didn't include exam prep, questions in the count.
It might be because I was reading OSPF in the FLG. So it just might -appear- small. In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□Yeah the first several chapters are extremely short, you can probably knock them out in a day or two. Then I hit zone-based firewalls and wanted to throw my book out the window! You starting today?
-
Roguetadhg Member Posts: 2,489 ■■■■■■■■□□Yeppers. Excited, actually. At least I can get the theory down. Labs, that's a different issue. I'm not sure how to lab. I have a 3550 poe switch coming in the mail, but otherwise I don't have enough for a full lab. I have to dig again in threads/PMs/other to see if someone told me if I can setup ASA in GNS3. *shrugs*
I've been wanting to get into Voice as well. Someday schedule a JCNIA-JUNOS. So much to do! So little time. I'm going to try to knock out the first three chapters in one day, I think. Once I get things settled at work, i'll start.
Mmm. Crispy pages... >.> Can't hold my excitement! In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

Kraganov Registered Users Posts: 1 ■□□□□□□□□□Great thread...I'm going through the book now too.
I managed to get my hands on a copy of ACS4.3 and ACS5.2 (or similar) This weekend I'll make my chest wet and try to set up the 4.3 in a VM on my machine. The requirements for ACS 5.x are incredible: an ESX VM with minimal 8GB of RAM. I hope I get the old version setup on my PC and brief back to you guys.
Together with that I'll have to see if I can get a working lab setup in GNS3. Anyone has that one worked out already? -
YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□^ Jealous! All I've done so far in GNS3 is get my ASA device set up, and after my first pass through the book I'll probably do some labbing and get ASDM going between the device and my laptop.

YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□Finally got through chapter 14: Configuring Basic Firewall Policies on Cisco ASA
Between this and Zone-Based Firewalls, I was pretty overwhelmed. LOL That's really all I have to say. -
zrockstar Member Posts: 378Blu, did you get my response to your PM? I think I am having an issue with them not sending, nothing is showing up in my sent folder. Sorry I would PM this to you but... well, yeah...
-
YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□I did! I apologize for not responding. Your response is pretty much what I expected
-
YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□So I pushed through chapter 15 today, the basics of IDS/IPS - I actually liked this chapter a lot, it really cleared up questions I had that weren't answered from my Security+ days.

Bah, zbf is fun! I've set it up on a ton of 2901's. Just understand your class maps and policy maps and you're good. It's the lengthy syntax trips everyone up.
I was originally going to do 640-553 6 months ago but decided to finish mcse instead. Starting in Sep I was going to go for ccna:v but since the new ccna:sec covers asa then I just might have to do that one too.
Good luck to you all, I'll probably chime in occassionally. -
YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□So I've been slacking lately with the running blog I have going here - I got through chapters 16 and 17, which were VPN and implementing cisco-based IDS/IPS. Up next is PKI infrastructure basics, which I'm looking forward to.
Nearly done with my first run through this book - I'll probably spend a few weeks re-reading and labbing after this, but so far I have learned a lot. -
YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□Complete: Chapter 18, basics of PKI.
Really good stuff here, not too complicated; especially with the help of Jeremy Cioara! Next up is the IPSEC chapter, which I'm really looking forward to. Then we wrap up with implementation of SSL and site to site VPN -

YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□Update: CBTnuggets has released 640-554 training. Not sure how long this has been available, but it's the first time I've noticed it.
Edit: The series is not available yet, but it looks like it has been completed and will be available soon.

YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□Ah yes, I didn't read far enough down the page. BTW it looks like Chris Bryant has separated himself from Train Signal and will be releasing 554 videos either on his own or with some other company. Hopefully something comes out soon.

Roguetadhg Member Posts: 2,489 ■■■■■■■■□□I didn't know he separated himself, but I remember seeing a youtube video he said the release date would be december? January? In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□Update: Still need to read the last two chapters. Ever since being accepted for the SANS GSEC Work Study, I have been using my time to listen to Eric Cole mp3s with my OnDemand account. I'm hoping to knock both chapters out tomorrow - For now, I'm sitting up in the dark, listening to Mr. Cole talk about hacking his friends athletic watch, to throw him off during training

YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□I've been super busy traveling for work, it has been nearly impossible to sit down with a book. At the latest both chapters 20 and 21 will be completed this weekend, and I'll begin watching CBT Nuggets and refining my note cards.
