Re: Infosec Guidance
tldr; Check the job boards and see what you need for your local market and interests. It depends on where you're starting from honestly. You can pursue formal education and go for another degree. Depending on the program it can give you a lot of knowledge or very little as far as security goes. You could also pursue… -
Re: Is it a bad strategy to only do certifications your employer pays for/or recommends?
My employer has an Educational Assistance Policy. While it says that it will reimburse for all courses in which your earn a B or better, including degree programs, certifications, and other, the only thing they will reimburse me for is college tuition. They said that they will not get any return from paying for my… -
Re: UMUC VS Capitol College - B.S. Cyber Security Degree
I am currently enrolled at UMUC and working on a BS is Networks and Security, which is in the Cyber Security school. I have never attended Capitol College, so I can't speak to what they are like. My experience with UMUC is great so far. As for IT classes, I have taken the equivalent to A+, N+ and am currently working… -
Re: Got my CCENT & CCNA (r&S). Whats next for me to enter infosec field?
Gratz on the CCNA, will hopefully have mine in a few weeks here as well. As someone who wants to get into the InfoSec field as well, here is my plan as of right now. After my CCNA I plan on going for Sec+ > GSEC > CISSP. Planning on finding a job as Security Analyst after or during those certs. Then will going to be going… -
Re: Just sat for CISSP Exam to Become an Associate in Cincinatti
Congratulations! Based on some previous/older members we had/have, the requirements for the CEH are a lot less strict than for the CISSP. Although it obviously needs to be relevant experience, it can be experience gained in other job roles than just 'full time infosec experience' the CISSP requires. if I remember… -
Re: How long do you study before taking CISSP exam?
I studied overall about 6 months but that was just after completing the Sec+ then studying for CASP. I decided to skip the CASP and go straight to CISSP but about a month in I got sidetracked studying CEH. After I got back on track I probably studied about 4 months but I was getting burned out so I'm glad I didn't wait… -
Re: OSCP--Jumping in the ocean without knowing how to swim (#Ain't_Never_Scared)
Its all about what you want to get out of your career - where you want to head. You can debate that CISSP/OSCP are polar opposites and one does not necessarily impact the other. For example I have CISSP and I work as a Senior Manager/VP in Cyber but have never needed OSCP (though have CEH for understanding the concepts).… -
Re: Advice: Transitioning from Systems Admin to Info Sec Career
Thank you all for your responses and advice. What do I want to do? I like finding flaws, fixing them, and educating people on how to avoid such in the future. I can see myself doing vulnerability assessments but I want to go beyond that. I like taking those results and doing a risk analysis. I would also like responding to… -

Hello All, I'm trying to break my way into the security side of IT, i currently have A+, Security +, and CEH. I have my eyes set on GCIH now.
