    Ok thanks.

How often are proctored tests? Is the testing schedule the same across the board? Like one test at the end of each course

I can't find the answer to this question - I've looked through old posts and most of the 140 pages of this thread -

"How long is each class? Are they all 'until completed' or are they 6, 8, 16 week classes?"

I appreciate the help - I am going to start my process soon and want to get all my eggs in my basket before I move forward.
    Kindly doing the needful

Until completed. The "classes" aren't anything like you are thinking really. You are given ALL the material for each class at the start of a semester. You don't have homework or class times, you work through the material on your own time. When you take the final test, cert or project and pass, then you are done the class. That is the reason no one has talked about class times, because there really isn't such a thing at WGU.

    "Until completed."

A class could take 6 days or 6 weeks to complete, depending on your own pace.

Thank you both, I appreciate it. WGU is starting to sound more and more interesting by the post. The website already has me reeled in and I may pursue my B.A. in just IT, maybe IT Management. I appreciate the answers
    Kindly doing the needful

    Regarding KET1:

I finished my term a month early and wanted to get a head start on KET1 before the next term. Are you required to complete the assignments that are assigned in WileyPLUS? My understanding was that only the tasks in TaskStream are required to pass the course? I'm a little confused since it says it is required although in the COS it only says to do the review and programming exercises after reading the chapter.

Thank you for the help and Merry Christmas!

Is it better to try to clep out of the math classes for BS:IT and is it even possible to test out of the science classes Biology and Physics since they also require a lab? I know there is a Biology Clep but not sure about Physics

I wouldn't bother. If you know the material, just take the tests through WGU, rather than paying for CLEP.

Does the school issue the certs for BS program or does just give you the knowledge to take the certs?

For the upper division classes you'll need to pass the certification to pass your class.

It pains me to ask this question because I feel it may be a dumb one but I rather ask anyway. I had another post asking if anyone could help me try to figure out what credits from my A.A.S in computer studies would transfer. The general consensus was contact an enrollment adviser which I did. He supplied me the current transfer guidelines and I asked since I have a A.A.S would can he say off the top of his head which lower level gen ed classes that usually gets satisfied by the degree. This was his response:

"It would depend on the degree plan and what courses you already have. Please refer to the guidelines and look at the bottom of each box on the right. Some should say it would be satisfied by an Associate’s degree. Hope this helps!"

After looking at the transfer guidelines and only for the humanities 2 classes it specifically states "The requirements below may be satisfied by an Associates's (except Associate's of Applied Science)" does that mean the rest of the classes that say "The requirements below may be satisfied by an Associates or Bachelor's degree" are satisfied by my A.A.S?

I'm transferring in 2 A.A.S. degrees, looks like I meet all the gen ed stuff EXCEPT the humanities classes. I figured that going in though as the same was true of any of the state schools I was looking at. You can't escape humanities...

I could clep out of the humanities my concern is not the humanities its more so the finite math, statistics, bio/lab, and physics/lab. Would you mind sharing what gen ed classes you had completed in the a.a.s degree? It would be ideal if my degree could waive those math and science classes if not I will have to enroll into straighterline and try to knock out the 2 science classes in a months time.

My main concern is if it does waive it and I end up spending money/time on those classes for nothing. The enrollment adviser said he couldn't give me a definite answer since thats not his department and best he could suggest is do a course by course comparison.

In my case, I had Applied Physics +lab, Astronomy, College Algebra, College English 1 & 2, accounting, and interpersonal communication as part of my A.A.S. degrees. Pretty basic stuff, I was much more interested in programming/networking at that time and intentionally took the easiest Gen Ed stuff I could get away with. All of my Gen Ed are met except the 2 Humanities (IWC1, IWT1) and 2 Leadership classes (BNC1, RIT1). I won't have to do any math, science, communication, or English thankfully. They are all marked as 'Met' by AAS on the transfer evaluation. Of course, I'm transferring in 2 A.A.S. degrees, might be a bit different with just 1.

Thanks for your reply! I have microecon, macroecon, english comp 1 & 2, business communication, college algebra, social psych, and western civ. In comparison to yours looks like I may need 2 sciences completed. If I could waive those math classes I would be one happy camper statistics and finite math are 2 classes I don't want to deal with.

Statistics is pretty basic, and finite math is VERY basic. The exam for finite math is only 20 questions. Seriously, nothing to worry about. You could probably pass them both with about a week of study, if that.

Really!? How are the science classes physics w/lab and bio w/lab? My concern was based on that the transfer for finite math was discrete math and I took it and failed it because I found it to difficult..
  • Options
    ratbuddyratbuddy Member Posts: 665
Finite math is sort of like discrete math lite, if that makes sense. Yeah, you need to know some of the concepts, but it's an introductory level class.

I haven't done biology yet, so I can't answer that, but the physics material was easy to learn with the included online testbook. Gonna write the physics lab now, so I dunno how hard that's going to be. So far, the hardest part of all the writing assignments has been deciding what to write about :)

So I'm looking to start WGU in March, but might push it back to April. This is mainly due to tuition reimbursement offered by my company that is only available for employees who have been there for at least 1 year.

I figure if I start in April, my 2nd term will begin in October. Hopefully HR will give me a 7 day grace period (my 1 year anniversary with this company is Oct 7th). The reimbursement will cover the 2nd term so that is a pretty good reason for the delayed start. If HR is unable to hook it up, I am just going to start in March.

I want to complete the program ASAP, but am not aiming for the 1-term marathon I've seen a lot of people complete. Depending on what is accepted as transferred units, I hope to finish in no more than 3-terms (should have 12-14 college classes transfer in along with at least 3 certs). I figure the BS:IT will not slow me down with certs such as CCNA/MCITP, as I know those are valuable, but I would rather not tie up tuition-time with those certs, especially if I am eligible for reimbursement.

My question is, I have A/Net/Sec+ already, along with transcripts yet to be evaluated. If I delay my start until April, would it be worth it to get Project+ out of the way on my own and transfer in 4 certs?

You could even start earlier if you wanted. WGU lets you take up to 3 months off in between terms as a 'term break' without withdrawing.

Having said that though, you could always get a jump on the Project+ material and then let WGU pay for the test right after you enroll. These were the books I used when I took it:

IT Project Management: On Track from Start to Finish, Third Edition: Joseph Phillips: 9780071700436: Amazon.com: Books

    and

CompTIA Project+ Study Guide Authorized Courseware: Exam PK0-003: Kim Heldman, William Heldman: 9780470585924: Amazon.com: Books

I agree. If you're sure you'll be starting in April, I say just study the material for a few classes. Then when you start, have WGU pay to take the exams and blitz thru those few classes. Since you already studied for them prior to starting, you should be able to finish whatever you pre-studied for quickly then move on to the newer material.

Not sure if anyone has done this but lets say you transfer in 90 credits the allowed maximum leaving 30 credits left to complete. What would happen if lets say the 30 credits are completed in 4 months can that person apply for graduation then or is it only after the term is over? Lets say the 4 months fall on june would it say graduated in june or when the term ends in August?

So I got my enrollment snafu sorted out and got back my transfer sheet.

Im curious if there is a list somewhere of what certs cover what courses. For example If I take Comptia A+ cert what courses that would knock off my list. If I take my CCNA what courses would that knock off. That sort of thing.

    Thanks in advance.

I asked my mentor this same question. She let me know that the process to graduate is very quick (~1week) and it will be in the month that you complete your final class.

Can you substitute Chemistry or Geology for Biology or Physics? I have class and lab credits for those courses, and having a C is the minimum so I'm guessing it will be OK.
