I know when I started, I had to complete the entire 12-13CU's before any other classes were added. It has to deal with if you don't complete the class and it'll show up as a Non passed on the transcript and it looks bad on the mentor as well.

But, once I was done with the mandatory 12-13, mine added them as I completed a class.

Well I don't know were to post this type of news, so if I am posting it in the wrong area then I am sorry ahead of time. So the good news is that I just got my KFT1 Task 4 evaluation back and it's 4's across the board. That means I am done, I have my Bachelor's of Science in Information Technology. All I can say is wow!!! Took 3 terms with just under half my credits transferred from my A.A.S. To all that are still climbing the B.S. hill, your getting closer to your goal with every Exam, Paper, or Project.

For me it is off to CCENT, then CCNA, I'm going to do a cert I want to do for a change.

It seems that for all of the IT degrees WGU offers, they all require some MS exams. Is there any way around this? Maybe taking some linux exams instead or anything?

There's no customization to their degree programs. What is listed in their degree program brochures is exactly what you have to take, zero exceptions.

You can do some thing before enrolling in WGU if you don't want to do those classes. Here's a quick matrix for each of the MTA Classes in the Software Program and how you can satisfy them before enrolling. The easiest way is an IT Related A.S degree.

DFV1 - Web Development Fundamentals - Requires MTA Web Development Fundamentals - Can transfer in CIW JavaScript Fundamentals CIW Exam 1D0-435, ID0-430, CIW Exam 1D0-635 or certification in one of the following areas: MCSD, MCAD, MCTS Web, MCTS Distributed, MCPD Web, MCPD enterprise, SCEA, SCJDWS, SCWCD, IBM U2 or an Associates Degree in IT

DHV1 - Windows OS Fundamentals - Requires MTA Windows Operating System Fundamentals - Can transfer in one course in operating systems or one of the following certifications: Microsoft 70-620, Microsoft 70-270, Microsoft 70-680 or certification in MCSE, MCSA, MCDST, MCA, MCITP Consumer Support, MCITP Enterprise Support, MCITP Enterprise Administrator, MCITP Server Administrator, CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Linux +, Red Hat RHCSA or RHCE. or an Associates Degree in IT

DJV1 - Software Development Fundamentals - Requires MTA MS Software Development Fundamentals - Can transfer in one course in software development or one of the following certifications: Sun for the Java Platform, Standard Edition 6 (CX-310-065) or Edition 5 (CX-310-055) or Edition 1.4 (CX-310-035) or certification in one of the following areas: MCSD, MCAD, MCPD Windows, MCPD Enterprise, SCBCD, SCDJWS, SCJD, SCMAD, SCWCD, SCEA. or an Associates Degree in IT

CVV1 - Database Fundamentals - Requires MTA Database Administration Fundamentals - Can transfer in CIW Database Specialist CIW (1D0-441 or 1D0-541) or certification in one of the following areas: MCDBA, MCTS SQL Server, MCITP Bus Intell Dev, MCITP Database Dev, MCITP Database Admin, MCA Database, Oracle 9i Admin or 10g Admin, or IBM DB2.

DIV1 - Windows Server Admin Fundamentals - Requires MTA Windows Server Admin Fundamentals - Can transfer in one course in server administration or one of the following Certifications: Microsoft 70-620, Microsoft 70-270, Microsoft 70-680, MCSE, MCSA, MCDST, MCA, MCITP Consumer Support, MCITP Enterprise Support, MCITP Enterprise Administrator, MCITP Server Administrator, CompTIA Server+, Red Hat RHCSA or RHCE. or an Associates Degree in IT

CWV1 - Network Fundamentals - Requires MTA Networking Fundamentals - Can transfer in one course in networks or one of the following certifications: CompTIA Network+ 2009 or certification in one of the following areas: MCSE, MCSA, MCA Messaging, MCITP Enterprise Administrator, MCITP Server Administrator, CCDA, CCIE, CCNA or CCNP, CCSP, CCVP, CompTIA DHTI+, CompTIA Convergence +, SCNA, SCSA, Oracle Linux Administrator or an Associates Degree in IT

I didn't realize it until I was already half way through my first term. If I had known I would have gotten an A.S. in IT from my community college. I only needed 3 more classes to convert my A.A. to an A.S.

That being said, the MTA exams I've taken so far have been dreadfully easy. I took the MTA Database exam with 3 days of study and only missed two questions. I spent quite a bit of time studying for the Windows OS Exam (4 weeks) but could have easily passed it with only 1 or 2 weeks of study. I think I missed 1 question on that one. It was my second course at WGU and I was still learning the ropes.

As an aside, I'm actually glad I made that matrix for you. While compiling the list, I discovered I actually met the qualifications for one of them that I hadn't taken yet. I sent the documentation to my mentor and he had the records office move it to my completed section and gave me full credit.

    Hey guys,

Brand new to the forums but it's been fantastic.

I have a bachelors from UCF in hospitality management. I am working in help desk right now and just started studying for the CCNA to try to move up to network administration or sysadmin in the near future. Would you guys recommend WGU for someone in my position? I've read a lot of responses that basically said as long as you have any degree it doesn't matter. (as long as you have certs/some experience). Thanks in advance!

Just finished second week of WGU and just passed CLC1 =D!, scheduled WFV1(CIW Web Foundations Associate Certification Exam (1DO-510)) for this Thursday. I'm pretty confident I can get that done no problem. So far everything has been good, my mentor is great and the resources for the classes are decent. Anyway back to the books!

    BBC1, LAE1 and QBT1

    Hi,

Can anyone provide their experience with the above classes? For example, how long did each class take you to complete, or how many papers did you need to write for each class and what is the required length for these papers. I'm considering the CLEP exam to bypass these classes, but if these classes are not too onerous, I might just decide to take them at WGU.

    Thanks.

I did QBT1 in about a week and a half. You could probably do it quicker depending on the time per day you can devote. It is basically going through the whole writing process and turning in a 10-15 page paper. Its not bad at all.

    Thanks board

If it's a regular task stream based class, I will put in 4 hours a day, although I write very quickly. So if I actually put myself into it, I can finish a task a day. If it's cert studies, also 4 hours a day until I feel comfortable. If the weekend feels right, i'll do 6 hours or more, just depends on the mood.

What is everyone's opinion on the CUV1 (CIW Web Design Specialist exam) and BOV1 (JavaScript Specialist exam) ?
I have never even heard of these exams. I have a rich background in HTML/CSS and Ive had classes on Javascript too.

Just wanted to know how quickly most of you breezed through these, or if they are actually difficult.

If you've got JavaScript, CSS, and HTML experience, you should be good. the CIW prep materials are good for these courses. I had minimal HTML experience and zero JS experience going in. Both courses took me about 5-6 weeks each.

Has anybody done the B.S. IT Management, or I'm the only sucker? icon_smile.gif I currently just waiting to speak with an advisor at my school currently (well going back. Stopped a year ago) to see how long I have to go to finish the AAS. If It's more than a year to finish my AAS I think the better route for me would be to transfer creds and to to WGU. Being I am changing directions from technical to management and I want my next position to be in management I feel it's a critical time for me to get the degree out the way. No kids and off 3 days a week. Think it's possible to finish with some creds moved over within 2 year?

LAE1 was super easy. I typed out a long essay explaining to a friend why WGU is a great choice for an online education. Included an in text citation (which I don't think was necessary), and a few days later of waiting on Taskstream I passed the class.
