erpadmin Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■I gots me my mentor today! Not only that, but I got a pre-EWB orientation tonight @ 9.
In all seriousness, I don't know if I'm gonna like this guy. I didn't care for how he demanded that the time be referred in MT (since he's in Utah). He is lucky in the fact that I was brought up to view my professors/teachers with some level of respect. Hell, I ran into one of my high school teachers at a bar like 13 years later. I could not bring myself to call him by his first name. College is a bit different; I have been on first name basis with many of my past professors...but the respect still applied.
Having said that, I'm gonna see how he rolls going forward. If he's not good with my classes, I will switch out to another mentor. -
earweed Member Posts: 5,192 ■■■■■■■■■□I started in September 2008 and my geneds from the uni which I attended in early 80's transferred then. Yeah I'm THAT OLD..lolNo longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives.

earweed Member Posts: 5,192 ■■■■■■■■■□I received an e-mail today informing me I am now a certified Javscript Specialist due to taking the CIW Javascript test. I took the test March 26 and at that time the test gave you no certification. It's due to the new certification changes they just implemented.
So now when students take the Javascript class they will be certified Javascript Specialist! No longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives. -

I'm looking into WGU's MBA in IT Management program and thought I'd just see if anyone had any thoughts or insight. I asked on another thread and I greatly appreciate the folks that have responded there already but this is probably a more appropriate place.
All the best to everyone, and hope to get to know you better in the future!

snokerpoker Member Posts: 661 ■■■■□□□□□□I just passed CLC1 today. My advice for anyone thinking about taking it- take the pre-assesment and if you pass....schedule the test. I didn't even study and passed. Most of the exam is common sense. Now on to my next task as I am trying to get the research paper done before the term ends!

Yep. I've seen other Students confirm that to be the case through their Experiences.

Welcome to TE, and to WGU! -
Shellee Member Posts: 3 ■□□□□□□□□□Just wanted to stop in and say hello and introduce myself, my name is Shellee and I started WGU in Feb 10. I already knocked out all Eng and Humanities reqs.
Not to bad, I finished the 12 CU's set forth. I now plan to start this term began today starting with 12CU's and will definitely do more this term. I had some unfortunate sets of untimely incidents happen last term and had 4 classes to finish in 1 month but I can pat myself on the back and say I've done very well. I got those last 4 classes in line and tackled them. Getting those last 4 done in 1 month let me see that I can do more and this term this is my goal even if I manage 1 more class then I will have accomplished my goal, but I have a good idea that it will be more than just 1 more I look forward to speaking with all of you and picking some brains. I'm a noob to IT so I will ask lots of questions and I have it on good authority that this is the place to be I'm a girl and I like color, lol!Shellee
BSIT-2nd term started Aug 1
Taking QLT, QLC,QMC and WFV this term so far with plans to increase to more classes if time and my brain with math permits :study: -
jmasterj206 Member Posts: 471How long does it usually take to get EWB cleared? I finished yesterday and would like to get going on classes. My mentor says we can't proceed until the email is sent that EWB is done.WGU grad

neuropol Member Posts: 34 ■■□□□□□□□□I'm waiting my ewb email, too. I went back to each discussion to make sure I didn't miss anything. I found that the fist post in the module 5 was the same as the first post in module 2. I contacted a course mentor and now there are two module 2 threads. Now waiting on a new module 5 thread to pop up.
The course mentor also said EWB emails should be sent within 24 hours of completion. -
erpadmin Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■I got mine earlier this afternoon.
I probably rushed it as I chatted the mentor and wanted to make sure.
You should see an e-mail today or tomorrow. I had to call my mentor and asked that our appointment be bumped up. In a few minutes, I'll be seeting up AAV.
But I am officially done with EWB. -

Send a chat request in the EWB community, or shoot ewb2group an email and just check on a status/pre-confirm to make sure you didn't skip anything/discussions.
After 8 hours (give or take), I was really fearful I might have forgotten something. The presentations started becoming bland....I almost lost my mind. -
snokerpoker Member Posts: 661 ■■■■□□□□□□Has anyone taken 1D0-520 (CIW Site Designer) test yet? I was wondering if it is significantly harder the foundations exam. I want to knock it out soon but am just curious to see if anyone here has passed it.

never2late Member Posts: 122Had my initial interview with my mentor today but left disappointed. Though he seems likable and said all the right things I cannot start classes yet because I have a transfer appeal. Till the transcript department decides on the appeal I can't start AAP.
He told me that he would try to speed the process but that we would not speak again till next week. That means the 10th before classes start which puts me behind for my goals. I am so ready to start... -
earweed Member Posts: 5,192 ■■■■■■■■■□If you're planning to take WFV1 then why not check out a free study guide at MCMCSE.com or the free html tutorials at w3cschools.com while you're waiting.
Also you might want to try posting your student experiences on this thread

Thanks earweed. Appreciate you getting my head turned in the right direction. Sometimes you need someone to show you that things don't go as planned but there are always options. -
snokerpoker Member Posts: 661 ■■■■□□□□□□You can also request the study materials for any class without "enrolling" in them. I have the books for the CIW Site Designer exam and am reading through them while I finish my research paper. Once I am done with that, I will add it to my aap and then take the test.

earweed Member Posts: 5,192 ■■■■■■■■■□You can also access the COS (course of study) before enrolling in the class. I'm almost ready to turn in my paper for the Technical Writing Class and wont be enrolled until next month. I'll probably be done with the Capstone Project by October and just have the 70-647 left to take to earn my degree. No longer work in IT. msteinhilber Member Posts: 1,480 ■■■■■■■■□□Well I ended up actually taking a one month (for now) term break rather than continue forward. More drama stemming from the issues I've been trying to get into my past cropped up that really fried my brain so I decided to play it safe and sit out a month. This should pass in a couple weeks and I'll be ready to go again in September. Can't wait though, I need to start accomplishing some of my goals so I'm not so down on myself for not getting anything done as I planned

powerfool Member Posts: 1,666 ■■■■■■■■□□So they will let you take a break? That is good to know.

I've only been in for one semester. They do let you take term breaks of up to three months at a time, though I believe there is a limit to how many I just can't recall. -
madmanmuro Member Posts: 12 ■□□□□□□□□□So i'm considering giving WGU a shot. I'm leaning towards the BS in IT. I would be transferring over having an AA degree, also most of the CompTIA certs including: A+, Network+, Security+, Project+. Would WGU allow me to transfer in all this credit? Also how many credits would I have left and how long would you estimate it to take the complete the remaining courses?

I think this has been answered in other posts. Transferring credits to WGU must be from an accredited college. AS degrees tend to carry more weight than AAS since you take more of the general ed classes. For certs, they do transfer as long as they are less than five years old.
To complete the degree depends on your dedication and how many CU's you need. The minimum is 12 CU's per 6-month semester but there are reports of others averaging 20 or more and some in the 40's. There are a lot of variables and the dynamic of WGU is self motivation.
Good luck. -
earweed Member Posts: 5,192 ■■■■■■■■■□With an AA degree most of your geneds would be done. If you really dedicate yourself it could be done in about a year and a hald would be my guess. You could do it faster and cheaper here at WGU than at a traditional college. No longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives.

Soulreaver Member Posts: 74 ■■□□□□□□□□i've been a long time reader of techexams.net i was surprised to see so many responses for WGU...should have known to look here first
i have a few questions maybe some of you could help with.
i have read about the accreditation of WGU i am interested in the masters program could you tell me if it would be transferable to another school if i ever decide to do a PHD or anything further?
i have read some of the posts that say the training is self paced, seems to be cbts + books how does the class enrollment take place? for example if i enrolled in say 4 classes i finish them would i be able to start new ones or would i have to wait for the term to end?
what kind of assignments are expected from each class i have read that you take exams at test centers so i assume if you pass those you pass the class? are their weekly assignments that must be completed? are their group projects that require other online students anything of that sort?
any international students in the US that have enrolled? i am on a student visa, legally allowed to live/work but other schools such as capella/strayer/pheonix/devry require a H1-B visa and/or a certain % of classes to be done on physical campuses for students like me
can i get a referral ? :P
thanks for reading if these have already been answered i apologize i read quite a bit of the thread but not all
TIA! -
earweed Member Posts: 5,192 ■■■■■■■■■□I don't know as much about the masters program but their cllasses and enrollment are the same.
1) You just get your mentor to enroll you in more classes when you complete the ones you originally took. You can't enroll in new classes during the last month of the term. You're required to be enrolled for a certain number of units to be full time.
2) There are objective exam classes where you take a test. They have a new testing system for the non IT classes where you are proctored via webcam which WGU provides. For IT classes you go to a testing center. For these classes passing the exam is passing the class.
There are eprformance assesments where you may be writing papers, doing powerpoint presentations, or even doing oral presentations. These assignments are turned into an online grading service which grades them When you complete the assigned tasks successfull you have passed.
3) Ask the enrollment counselors about the visa thing. I'm not sure how that works.
4)Go to the referral thread to ask for a referral http://www.techexams.net/forums/jobs-degrees/55634-wgu-refer-friend-thread-those-seeking-referral.htmlNo longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives. -
