Last year around this time we produced a couple threads on 2011 plans:
http://www.techexams.net/forums/general-certification/59004-2011-certification-plans.html (Bl8ckr0uter) 10/10/10
http://www.techexams.net/forums/security-certifications/58374-q4-2010-2011-security-cert-objectives.html (Paul Boz) 9/21/10
How are you all progressing with your certification/degree goals and what does 2012 hold for you?

Chivalry1 Member Posts: 569I have accomplished my 2011 certification goals. I am giving my brain a rest after completing the CISSP this year. I don't really have any certification plans on the horizon. If I can get my employer to pay for SANS training, I will attempt the GCIH...But I don't think that will be happening soon. So I will relax for 6 months and use this time to improve upon my French."The recipe for perpetual ignorance is: be satisfied with your opinions and

Finished off my MCITP: EA
May be able to squeeze in the SNIA before the end of the year. I had planned on a Citrix and an Exchange cert, but there isnt a point to it if I dont touch these technologies much at work.
2012:
Pound away at some vendor's storage cert, likely be an EMC, since we are going to get an EMC SAN. I have assumed a new role at work, managing backups, actually been doing it for 4-5 months now, so it's of paramount importance that I am good at it. Apart from that I'll be going over core Windows concepts again, DNS/DFS/Clustering and GPO's over the next year. -

CISSP in Q4
2012:
OSCP - I cannot wait to get my hands on this bad boy.
GCFA - I am planning to expand my existing knowledge on forensics as I may be involved with forensic investigations at work.
OSCE - Exploit development is something I am fascinated by. If everything goes well with OSCP, I should be looking into this one as well.Every day hurts, the last one kills. -
MentholMoose Member Posts: 1,525 ■■■■■■■■□□It's too soon for this thread. In any case, I'll mainly be working on Citrix certs for the foreseeable future (employees get free exam vouchers). Besides that, I will try to get in on any free Server 2012 beta exams, and maybe I'll go for the RHCE. I also put my MCSE on hold with two exams remaining (293 and 298 ) so maybe I'll finish it.MentholMoose

rogue2shadow Member Posts: 1,501 ■■■■■■■■□□2011: Pretty much stuck to plan. I completed the CEH/CNDA and CPT and am now at the end of my CISSP studies. I decided to drop CWTS, LPIC-1, and CCNA Security for now in favor of priming myself for red studies all next year.
2012: As stated above, this year is going to be painted in red! I have a decent cert plan setup but I'm going to be focusing more on the material behind advanced analysis, reverse engineering, and pentesting as a whole. My tentative cert plan is as follows: OSCP > CEPT > GPEN or GCIH (depending on funds), OSWP (for fun; only if updated). -
Mike-Mike Member Posts: 1,860My plans have changed drastically, i went from MCSE or MCITP SA to now trying to finish up CCNA and CCNA Security by the end of the year. Maybe throw in a Project+ for good measure.
Like another poster stated, it's pretty early to plan out 2012, I guess it depends on what job role I take on. Either all in for Microsoft of CiscoCurrently Working On
CWTS, then WireShark -

erpadmin Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■By the end of 2011 (it could be earlier of course), I plan on being a MCITP:EA. Depending on when I finish, I will probably do the 646 so that I have an SA on top of that. (Just because it's one test). Oh, and Project+ (which I could really do now, but I want to focus on getting 70-642 out of the way for either the rest of this year or by 1/2011). Project+ I will probably do by end of Q1 2011.
IF there is time AND it's not messing with my other studies, I plan on also going for the MCITP: Database Administrator 2008.
OTHERWISE, for 2012, I will throw that in there as well as the Virtualization Administrator one. But the MCITP:EA and Project+ are what I'm definitely going to do for 2011.
I'm on track to have the MCITP:EA by the end of the year. I did complete Project+ in the end of 2010 (I had time to throw that in there).
2012, I will shoot for the Database Administrator 2008 exam and depending on how Hyper-V works out for me, I may still consider Virtualization Administrator. At this point though, I just want to focus on graduate school once I'm done with WGU. -

CISA
If I had to pick a "vendor" (and I use the term loosely here, as SANS is not what I would typically consider to be a vendor like MS, Citrix, Cisco, et al) certification, I am considering obtaining the GIAC GPEN, with the GCIH being a strong runner-up.
I would like to start my MBA next year, but will likely defer it until 2013. -
Everyone Member Posts: 1,661Well I submitted a plan to my boss that will take me through "Microsoft Certified Master: Exchange Server 2010", which will require that I finish both my MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2010, and MCITP: Enterprise Administrator.
Total cost is going to be around $3,375, so we'll see if he approves it.
I'd have to pass 9 exams total to get there, but if I did, I'd be one of less than 50 people in the world with that cert. -
rwmidl Member Posts: 807 ■■■■■■□□□□Well my original plan for 2011 was get my MCITP:EA. Well the second/third week in January I ended up in a CISSP prep course, so basically from January till mid/end of May was in CISSP-land. Once that was done I was brain dead/not really motivated to do anything else. Recently I decided to make it a point to get my MCITP:SA before the end of the year.
So for the remainder of 2011:
70-642: Test first part of October
70-646: Test first part of December
For 2012:
Get MCITP:EA(If I pull of the above, I will only have 2 I think tests to take, 70-643 and 70-647 I think)
GCWN: (I still really want to do this, I just need to figure out a way to have work pay for it)
Focus on keeping up with the CPE requirements for the CISSPWho knows, if I'm crazy I may just do the SSCP for the fun of it.CISSP | CISM | ACSS | ACIS | MCSA:2008 | MCITP:SA | MCSE:Security | MCSA:Security | Security + | MCTS -
cyberguypr Mod Posts: 6,928 ModPlan was MCITP:EA, CCNA and CISSP. Completed MCITP:EA and CCENT so far. Had to put ICND2 and CISSP until next year so I can focus on completing my degree. Plan for 2012 is to pick up right where I left and complete CCNA along with CISSP. We'll see.
Forgot to add I got MCITP:SA via the Dreamspark voucher. -

powerfool Member Posts: 1,666 ■■■■■■■■□□I think that 2012 will be a catch up year for me, as I doubt I will complete my 2011 plans based on my progress over the summer. I figure I will round out this year by finishing up MCITP EMA 2010 and VCP. 2012 will be time for the PMP and probably a quick update to VCP on 5, and then maybe work on the MCM Exchange 2010. I will still also be working to complete my MS in Cybersecurity Policy.2024 Renew: [ ] AZ-204 [ ] AZ-305 [ ] AZ-400 [ ] AZ-500 [ ] Vault Assoc.

Qord Member Posts: 632 ■■■■□□□□□□2011 Planned:
70-290 & 291 - I've been slacking, forced myself to schedule the tests for the early Nov and early Dec., respectively. Having a date set motivates me.
2012:
Finish my bachelors (hopefully!!!)
Either CCNA Security or ROUTE. Doubt I'll do both. -
the_Grinch Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■2011:
CCNA - Take it on the 29th
MCITP:SA - Maybe get it done this year?
2012:
MCITP:SA - Figuring I will finish this in 12
MCITP:EA
SSCP - Maybe, not a 100% on this just yet
I think most of 2012 I am going to be focusing on a solid foundation of knowledge to get myself fully into a security position. Linux, true networking (not just the CCNA based stuff), and programming.WIP:
PHP
Kotlin
Intro to Discrete Math
Programming Languages
Work stuff -

2012 goals are to finish CCNA (early 2012), Exchange certification, and VCP (VMWARE). -

I think “very senior” gets stuck in there because the last six yahoos that applied for the position couldn’t tell a packet from a Snickers bar.
