GSNA Experience
After passing my GSNA exam this morning, I thought I'd share my experience studying for and taking the exam. Conducting some intial research of the SANS program, it seemed as though a lot of my co-workers had SANS plaques on their walls. Mostly GWAPS, and GPENS, and a few GCIAs here and there. I heard great things about…

Advice for GSLC Exam Prep
I attended a SANS training a few months ago and am preparing to take my certification exam for Security Leadership (GSLC). I've read and re-read the material, and I feel I am fairly familiar with it. I'll be taking practice exams in about two-weeks. Is there anything else I should be doing to prepare? Since the test is…

GCIA - Self Study
Hey Thought I'd take another persons Opinion before I gunned in the wrong direction. My Boss appreciated my GCIH pass and wants me to up the ante a bit. GCIA is on his mind as I have already attended the GSEC and the GCIH. But he is going to give me a self study option only. No Exam included. I might do that myself. :D…

New SANS event South Florida!
South Florida 2013 (Fort Lauderdale, FL) Anyone think they might attend? I'm in Florida, and if I can get the time off, it could be awesome, 504 that week, then up to VA for a Security University QSA/LPT class... Its still rough, $5000 not including hotel. I really don't see myself ever attending an event at these prices.…

Journey - GCIH Scheduled for the 9th of Septemeber
This thread shows my path to the GCIH Exam. I took the class in May 2013. I have the On Demand and the books. But I am going to be only following the books. Will try to see the Videos during the weekends. I have also taken the GSEC Class in July 2013. I intend writing the exam after I complete the GCIH. I have no real…

Just Passed the G2700 two hours ago...
I'm enrolled in WGU's MSISA program, like many here, and had to pass the G2700.. I have to say it was quite a relief to see the words "PASSED" on the screen! Normally, I'm pretty nervous before tests.. to top that, the Vue center was having issues. She said, I might have to come back next Friday.. For some reason, they put…

GSEC Experience
Sitting for my GSEC on Friday. Just wanted to create this thread as a placeholder for my review. Quick question though first: I have read all the coursebooks that came from SANS backwards and forwards. I have my exhaustive index all ready to go. I also made hand notes for each module, more as a refresher tool and a good…

Additional resources for studying for GSEC
When I took the SANS long course a few months ago online, they provided several books of course, but I found them all hard to digest. Are there any additional resources out there, a bit more condensed, that could help me understand the concepts I need to learn? I've looked on Amazon for resources but oddly, all of the…

So I just passed GSEC....
And I find myself mystified as to why the SANS name, and this certification, seem to get so much respect. Now, I'm going to say some not so nice things about SANS and the GSEC. Let me preface that by saying that I'm an IT professional with pretty close to two decades of experience. This certification is not targetted at…

GCIA passed...
Passed today with 96 percent. Better than I had hoped, not as good as I wanted. Surprisingly, I finished in under an hour and forty-five minutes, and although I did reference printed materials a number of times, I still would have passed easily without them. All in all, it's not a bad score:…

Scheduled SANS GCIA
The time has come for me to finally sit the exam. I have passed both practice test, and there is no need to keep putting the exam off. Paying for Sans training
Has anyone ever payed out of pocket? I know most peoples employers will pay for it, but what about those of us who have a low level IT job? Wasted cert?
I've had my GSEC for over the course of a year and been aggressively looking for an infosec job for the past 3 months. Certainly, they all know what the CISSP is, but I'm not sitting for that exam for another…

GWAPT passed
I knocked it out in 1.5 hours (you only get 2 hours) and scored a 90. I really wish more tests were this length and style. 75 questions and two hours seem like enough to find out if you understand a topic. The style and difficulty of the questions on the test matched up well with the two practice tests SANS provided.

Just passed the GWEB Cert last week, and scored a 90.6 in just about 2 hours. Not long, but it is a tough test. There are "situational" type questions that ask questions like; here is the big…

Thoughts on the GIAC 2700
Passed the GIAC 2700 exam on Saturday with a 81.33 score, and used a little over one hour. This test was much closer to the CISSP and CISA than any others in the WGU MSISA program, for sure. After much thought, I did the open-book material I took in the exam a little different than Agent47 here:…
