Security + SY0-301 or SY0-401
I'm considering getting the security + certification. I already acquired the a+ and the network + and I'm looking to switch careers. Should I just skip the sec+ and move on to the Microsoft stuff? What are employers looking for in an entry level position? If I do go for the security plus is the 301 easier or is it outdated…

Security + 401
Has anyone taken the Sec + 401 test? How similar is it to 301. Any suggestions on passing this?

Can you take notes when you get to testing center for SYO-301?
When I arrive for my exam in a couple weeks, I want to be able to take notes when I get there to remember some things/take notes as I do the test. Is that allowed? Thanks.

Passed SYO-301 The Low down
Guys i passed the Security+ Exam today with an 858. I have no IT background what so ever. I studied for 10 days with Darril's book and some study guides. I was so nervous and thought it was going to be alot harder. It wasnt that bad. As long as you know the material you will be fine. I was so worried about the performance…

Feedback on some questions?
As I mentioned in my other thread, I'm taking Security+ pretty soon and I've been studying for it using Darril's book which is fantastic. Darril is great at explaining things exactly how I understand them best. I scored 90% or better at the end of each chapter so I was feeling pretty confident ... until I went to the…

Comptia Continuing Education Inquiry
Hello Everyone, Sorry if this is in the wrong category but I just had a question about Comptia's Continuing Education. I read up on the website and you have to designate an "intent" level of renewal. Naturally the current "highest" cert I have is Security + which would also be my intent level. However, there is…

Question about renewing Sec+
I have a question, first of all I am new so it's nice to meet all of you :) I currently hold the A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications. On December 7th, my certifications are going to expire. If I get Cloud+, will it automatically renew these three certifications? I am looking at CompTIA's chart and maybe I'm not…

I just passed SY-301
After a month of putting off the test, I just passed the SY-301 with a score of 805. I'm not going to lie, if I hadn't pulled an all-nighter (midnight-9AM) before the test at 10AM, I might not have passed. I hardcore reviewed two objectives and I feel like 1/2 of my exam was on those objectives. I'm so happy to get this…

do i need to take network+ before security+?
im interested in taking security+ after i get my A+(hopefully) this coming week. and ive read that the most natural transition is to network+ THEN to security+ but if they are apples to oranges then i will just proceed and take security+ me and some other classmates are going to self-study and have our instructor give us…

Passed Security+ Sy0-301!
After about 3 months of studying I finally scheduled the test and passed it on my 1st attempt. The first 6 - 7 questions were all sims. Some of the sims definitely threw me for a loop, but I managed to get it down. Currently, I have an AAS in Computer Networking and about 4 years of Technical Support/Help Desk experience.…

Passed SY0-301
It's been a long time coming, but I finally buckled down and took this exam (due in part to it's impending retirement). I mostly used Daril Gibson's book and website w/premium content, Prof. Messer and PluralSite/TrainSignal cbts, and Techexams practice questions. I had enough time to go through the test and review my…

Just passed Sec+ today, now I need advice?
I just took the exam and passed with an 825. I studied Gibson's book, plus his Get Certified Get Ahead | Get Certified Get Ahead Premium Content along with some online test questions(including CompTIA's free questions). If I had to do it again, I wouldn't change a thing. Though at this point, I need some direction on what…

Pass today
I am still shocked I passed the exam, the strange thing is the labs were so easy that it helped bring my percentage up. The questions not so hard either. I can honestly say getting 95 or better on the practice exams is the key, and checking the answers and reading the descriptions paid off. I only used the labsim. I also…

Testout.com material & Pretest versus Get Certified Get Ahead - Your thoughts?
Hi everyone, This is my first post here, although I've been using the site for the last couple weeks as a resource for information, to help prepare for the SY0-301 Security+ exam. And a pass!
I took the Security+ SY0-301 today. I passed comfortably with 862/900. My main study source was Darril Gibson's book, although I did go through some of Professor Messer's videos to have an alternate viewpoint on some of the things I was having issues with. I tested myself with some practice tests I found online, and I was…

My one worry about the test is the SIMS?
I passed the Network+ exam a month ago and had some difficulties with the SIMS. 1. They were hard, but I think I was able to get enough of the choices correct to help me pass. 2. There was one in particular where it seemed like the picture was frozen and I couldn't make a single change to the network set up. That really…

How did you satisfy your CEU for Sec+
I took and passed the so-called lifetime Sec+ cert, then CompTIA and the DOD impleted the CEU requirement. I took a class that was eligible for 40 units. Passed- the honory thread.
Took my exam today at 12:45 and used all 90 min. Honestly, I thought I had failed the test because of the way CompTIA worded some of there questions and when I used…

I feel comfortable but what is "comfortable" and how do you know when you're ready.
So I have been reading Darrils book and watching the videos from professors messers youtube. I have to say everything is really really good. I even bought Darrils practice test book. Which test do I take?
Sorry Everyone, this is a very nooby question. I was looking at the official CompTIA Sec+ site, and it said SY0-401, but also had exam codes SY0-301 and JK0-018. Just passed Security+ (JK0-018)
Just passed my Security+ with an 869! Darrill Gibson's book and Android study app, and the WGU LabSim materials, were my primary study aids, but I also spent time studying the videos over at IT Pro TV, and highly recommend them. I've passed with a score of 856 after studying for about two weeks (~30 hours in total); ten days with Darril's book and three or four intense days following up on the notes I had taken, working on my weaknesses and doing practice tests. Hey everyone! I passed! I scored an 820. Not the worst, but not the best. A couple of the questions really through me for a loop. I had 3 performance based questions, the rest were multiple choice. Taking Security+ with no formal study
I've been watching the Professor Messer videos, and most of the material presented seems to be very easy. Is it possible to just walk in and pass the exam? The only material I don't fully get is comparing the different cryptography algorithms, but cryptography is supposed to be only 12% of the SY0-301. Has anyone failed…

Passed!
I'm pretty stoked cause this is my first "real" certification and I was pretty nervous about it the night before. Killed the Security+ exam!
To prepare, I took a 40 hour CompTIA course at a computer school, and since then I've been studying on and off for about 6 months, I used mostly the ITIL Security+ book, it covered everything that I saw on the exam. I also used Professor messer's training videos (saw each of them at least 3 times!), I browsed Darryl's book…

Taking Security+ this weekend
I'm pretty nervous. I did labsim at Testout and passed everything, went through Darril's blog, and now looking at Professor Messer's videos. I'm not sure if it's enough. SECURITY+ 301 Transcender Test Prep Question
Hello All, I was curious if anyone had first-hand experience with using Transcender for Security + 301 as test prep aide. Just passed Security + today. I used ********* and Darril Gibson's book. Also, on the advice of people here, I signed up for Darril's web-based training course. Diffie Hellman - Symmetric or Asymmetric
The Diffie Hellman (DH) algorithm allows each party to compute the same secret key from a shared (non-private) prime number, a secret number, and two public numbers (computed from each party’s secret number). And this without ever exchanging the secret key - impressive! However, the product of DH is symmetric keys (not…
