Security+ after CCNA, good idea?
Hi, i just got my CCNA a month ago. I'm going to start my MCSE in january with a friend but before the end of the year i'd like to get another cert. Is Secutiry+ a good idea? If i know good, it counts as a Elective exam for MCSE. And compare to CCNA, is it harder or easier? Thanks :)

What are the best books for Security+?
I passed my network+ certification today, and I am now considering studying for the Security+ exam, so I would like to know what are the best books for it. Thanks.

Passed Security+ today
Well guys, I passed it! I used the Sybex book as my main study material, but I also read Mike Myer's Passport and part of the Syngress book. I went over TCat's free PDF and this website, as well as Examnotes and Cramsession. All in all I thought it was a fairly good test. A lot of people complain about the wording but I…

passed security+ test
wow just passed the security+ test with a 764. Thought that I should have done better. Most of the questions were pretty straight forward. I just didn't know the material as well as i thought i did. I used the todd king training guide and the exam cram 2 book and the tcat free pdf. I think I will pay and get their full…

Does symmetric provide authentication?
hello all, I read serveral books about symmetric algorithm and quite confused coz they say differently about it. Some of them say it provide authentication while others dont. For example, Syngress book says it does not while some other documents say yes Another question I want to ask is: If you have a question that asks…

About to write
I'm preparing to write the Security+ exam on Friday... I've studied a couple of books specifically on the subject (one of them was Sybex). I am also practicing with Transcenders, and although I am passing each practice test, the margin by which I am passing is a little concerning. I noticed that the passing cut-off is MUCH…

I passed today.
:D The second attempt was easy. I scored 876. I anticipated 900+. There were loads of questions on CA, Kerberos, None from RADIUS & TACACS. Some tricky questions on CIA Triad, atleast 6 very tricky questions regarding Encryption algorithams, Some tricky questions on SSH, Two questions on Backup. and I got lot of questions…

Boson Tests
Hi Guys, I feel so lucky bumping in here. I was going thru all the previous posts and decided not to take the Sec+ TODAY. I got a real good picture about the exam here. I have been using Exam Cram 2 (Cover2Cover Reading) and I felt that that was sufficient. Now I am well aware that i require more than that. I am also using…

I Failed
Damm this exam.... i was so tempted to take this. I took it too soon. I scored 660. There were no major Crypto Qs. Too confusing Qs. Very slippery exam I should say. I used the xam cram 2 and boson tests to prepare. ThEY will not help. So I just bought myself a Microfot Press Book. let me try with this one. I can take all…

I PASSED! I CAN'T BELIEVE I PASSED!
That was probably the hardest test I have ever taken. I scored 772 with passing being a score of 764. I PASSED BY 8 POINTS! That isn't even one whole question on this 100 question test. RussS, you are my man! If you hadn't given me that list of ports I would have missed a question about which ports L2TP and PPTP use. I…

CompTIA Can Bite My @$$
Took the Security+ Exam yesterday and failed with a score of 708. The exam was the most poorly written piece of crap I've ever seen. Someone find me someone from CompTIA so I can punch them in the face. Not only did I read the Sybex "Authorized Curriculum" book from cover to cover TWICE, I also read the Syngress book from…

Mike Meyers Network+
Interesting to see some of the thoughts on Mike Meyers Network+. I used the All-In-One and then after taking a few practice exams on the web decided the book did not cover enough. I bought the Sybex book, read it cover to cover and passed the exam, but probably wouldn't have on just the Mike Meyers book alone. I did like…

Mike Meyers' Security+ Certification Passport
After hearing all the horror stories about Security+, I was wondering if anyone had tried Mike Meyers' Security+ Certification Passport. I loved his A+, and heard some issues about his Net+, so I was wondering how well he did on Security+.

Security+ - I'll have one of those please.
Took Security+ this morning and I have to disagree with almost everything I have heard about it - it isn't that difficult (took about 25 mins) and doesn't go into much depth. Perhaps I was lucky with the questions but I defininely didn't need to study as deep as I did (Chinese Wall, Bell La Padula(she's my baby), Kerberos,…

Top Books
It's not a security+ study guide but one of the best security books I ever read was 'Have you locked the castle gate' by Brian Shea ISBN 0-201-71955-X. It is very good for establishing a foundation of security principles as well as being just a good read. It is quite short but contains a lot of useful and well explained…

Didn't do as well as I should have
668... failed 07/30/03 oh well back to studying more, I think I thought too hard on some stuff, overall though a beast of a test. On a positive note I did pass the IT Project + the same day. I took it with no prep other than OJT and passed it with flying colors. Maybe I need to quit studying... lol

Security flaw in Microsoft OS's
In case folks haven't seen it yet... http://www.ajc.com/business/content/business/0703/17microsoft.html Since this forum deals with prep for a security exam, it seemed the most prudent place to place this heads up. Grrr Wireless!!!
Ok this question is for all you that have taken this test. How much emphasis is put on wireless technology and wireless security? I have the syngress book and in chapter 4 it covers wirless. Boson Software?

Need to change wording on Question #2 for Sec+ exam
Your answer for ?#2 states that the encryption of the message with the private key is the actual signing for the message. Just Passed -- Commentary
I just passed with a score of 820, so I guess that I was reasonably well prepared. Here's my comments. I didn't have any multiple selection questions, this seems to be different than other test taker's experiences. Main prep book was Cisco's Security+ Guide to Network Security Fundamentals, it was pretty good and thorough,…

Passed
Must say this was a tricky test but it can be beat. You will need to know a little more than the current books, study guides and practice tests out there teach. Lots of questions with multiple correct answers, but you must select the most correct answer. Another tip is know your port#'s and I don't mean just the usual…

Passed! 804 here as well.
Glad it is finally over. What can I say, this test did catch me off guard and I was starting to get nervous towards the end. I have taken prior exams from CompTIA (A+, Server+) and must say that in relation this test is not to be taken lightly. My primary study materials were Mike Meyer's Passport and Tcat's PDF as well as…

Just Passed with 804.
Wow guys this is a difficult exam mostly b/c of the broad aspect Comptia uses to ask the questions. There isn't a whole lot of detail in them. You really need to know what you are answering. Deducing an answer is a definite strategy again b/c of the broad question format. It makes sense though. How many of you are…

Passport Series Security+ Book
Written by Trevor Kay this book is a very good read and seesm to cover the subject satisfactorily. Reviews, critiques and what to expect.
Well three weeks of intense study has certainly made me wonder why I tried this with so little study material.
