GCIH Certification Dilemma
Longtime lurker, first time poster... Normally I don't complain about receiving free/paid for certifications, but my organization has put me in a dilemma... I had received a paid voucher for the CISM which I took yesterday (fingers crossed)... and back in October I received access to the SANS OnDemand GCIH and a…

GSEC Index
Hello all, I'm currently reading through the GSEC texts and creating my index as i go. I have amassed a 120 page index, and i'm only up to book 4 out of a total of 6 books! For those who have completed the GSEC, i was wondering how many pages did your index contain? Thanks

GCIH Books to start with
I'm scheduled to take SANS sec504 followed by taking the GCIH. I plan on getting Counter Hack Reloaded by Edward Skoudis. I've read online to also get Hackers Beware: The Ultimate Guide to Network Security by Eric Cole as well. Are there any other books that anyone found useful? Thanks!

Looking for a GCIA practice exam
I took 503 and have the GCIA exam scheduled on 03 Feb. Does anyone happen to have an unused GCIA practice test they would be willing to part with? After passing the GSEC and GCIH exams, I'm finding the GCIA content to be far more rigorous. Thank you Joe

SANS Work Study Application Changes
Is there a way to change your order of preference for the SANS courses on a Work Study application? I checked the email and the website and don't see a way. Alternatively, when SANS contacts you, do they just tell you what course you've been selected for, or give you a choice of courses?

GIAC Certs
My boss says CCIE Security is overkill for our team and CEH isn't necessary so he wouldn't pay for these, but he would send me to SANS training. I checked out the site and see quite a few certs that look interesting, but I don't know where to begin. Do I have to begin at a specific cert like taking CCNA before other Cisco…

SANS work study
Hi All, I have been accepted to a SANS Work study program in 2 months for AUD507: Auditing & Monitoring Networks, Perimeters & Systems ( the GSNA certification). SANS Material Delivery Methoods
I am trying to decide which course delivery option would be best for me. On one hand I really like the idea of going away and hearing someone teach the material and then relaxing in a hotel room over night thinking about the material. But I also like the idea of a self-study where I can review the book or video and rewind…

GCHI Renewal with CPEs
Good day I am wondering if anyone has experience renewing the GCIH cert through sans with OSCP and pen testing with kali. It clearly says that OSCP is worth 40 ISC2 CPE credits however is that worth the same through SANS? GREM vs GCFE

Passed GCED
So decided to make an account here since I used this site to help me what to expect on my GCED Exam. Exam took me about 2 and a half hours, and scored an 84%. I brought my Index (roughly 800 keywords), cmd **** sheet (150 commands), MAN page print outs (about 5 applications), and several **** sheets from SANS (NMAP, TCP…

Passed GCED
After spending 4 days at a downtown Chicago hotel I had to get back to reality and what better way that by taking the GCED. It took me 1 hr 30 min and got an 89%. Passed GCFE Today
Greets, TE-- Back in October I participated in the SANS Work Study program for the Network Security conference in Las Vegas. It was a pretty crazy event from a WS perspective. Grants/Scholarships?
Greetings Folks, Just curious if anyone knew of any grants/scholarships for SANS training? I'm a small-town cop who's interested in adding a bit of cyber capability to our wee town, so I imagine there's gotta be some DOJ/DHS money out there somewhere. However, so far my searches have turned up nothing. I was hoping some…

Sans FOR408 Windows Forensics?
I work as a security analyst. We currently send out any forensics work to an outside security company. Any input on the FOR408 course for…

GSEC - Just a general question on GIAC certs
I see that in every thread people talk about the boot camps and on demand courses and such and I was wondering if they are almost required to pass the test or if it's just a REALLY good idea to take them. I couldn't pick up a book and find labs, do practice exams for the exam could I? Every boot camp and on demand item I…

GIAC practice tests and Final Exam
Hi guys, can someone share their experience with the difference between the 2 GIAC practice tests and the final exam. I am not expecting the…

GIAC GSEC passed
I'm glad that's over. SANS 401 plus the tests seemed to occupy most of my time for the last two months. I took the entire 5 hours and got what I would consider a mediocre score of 93%. The exam seemed particularly heavy on certain subjects. There were several times that I had back to back questions from the same part of…

Passed GCIA
Recently passed the GCIA exam and I must admit, it was a tough exam. I finished with less than 10 mins to spare. By far the most difficult exam I've prepared for and taken. Trading GCIA practice test for GCIH

advice
Considering sitting for the exam GCIH exam beginning of next month. One quick question if you don't mind, would you "suggest" indexing Book #6 or any of the labs throughout the book? I would assume they wouldn't ask questions from the lab so I skipped indexing labs..but we all know what happens when you assume right?

Passed GSEC - tips and thoughts
I passed the GSEC a few days back with 90%. I lurked this forum a lot while preparing for the exam. Now that I'm done, I figured I should give back. I'm not much of a writer so this will be brief. I took the 401 boot camp in the OnDemand format. I was completely satisfied with OnDemand and would choose that over a…

Failed GCIA - 503: Help and Extra Practice Exams
Coming out of 'lurking-mood' and requesting any help and if anyone has extra practice exams. My biggest take away from failing the exam was time. Failing GIAC Practice Exams
For self-study challengers, i wonder if anyone has ever intentionally bombed their practice tests??? Since you only get the explanation for questions you miss, it may actually make for a better study aid than the minor confidence boost you get from doing well on the exam. Just a thought.

The pressure is on!
So, I took SEC504 vLive several months back (almost 4 now), and put studying on hold due to life circumstances (insane workload, home remodel etc.). Starting the GSEC - First SANS Course
After much debate and going back and forth, I've decided to pursue the GSEC before I venture into the GCED or GCIH material I'm also interested in taking.
