Udemy
Hi everyone. I am new to this board but I have been lurking for a couple of weeks and soaking in knowledge. I am beginning to study for the CCENT and have the official Odom books but am more of a visual learner. I am looking hard at the Udemy courses but not sure if the Chris Bryant or the Lazaro Diaz classes would be a…

Juniper vs Cisco
I am currently working in a Data Center and let two men into their rack today. I noticed they had some Juniper equipment and said, "so you prefer Juniper over Cisco?" The one guy started talking and said that it's way better, almost as if there is no comparison. He said to me that "knowing Cisco isn't going to hurt, people…

Sitting for CCENT in 1.5 Weeks
I'm a slacker when it comes to certs, but a I'm getting the feeling having at least a CCNA (R/S) at my workplace is going to become a hard requirement in about three months, so I thought I'd get ahead of the curve and start working on it now. My goal has always been to expand that to the CCNP (R/S) as well. Currently, I'm…

switchport modes
Figured I'd clarify through experimentation. It has been debated what happens for switchport mode dynamic auto and switchport mode dynamic desirable when connected to another switch that is set switchport mode trunk, so I did it. All equipment is 2960-S, mix of IOS 12 and 15. These happen to be 24-port non-PoE with Lan…

Kickin' this off before too long...
...just as soon as I pass my CCNA R&S... Picked up a 2504 controller, three 3602e APs, twelve antennas, and a 48VDC power supply this evening. Figured the best way to get going on a Wireless cert is to use the equipment daily; my home consumer-grade POS vlan-aware AP has got to go, so why not kill two birds with one stone?…

questions on ccna home lab equipment
Hi guys and gals! I plan on taking my ccna (ccent-->ccna) within the next six months and I've been told by the majority of the people I talk too (in person and the net) to set up a home lab although there are some that say that it isn't worth it. IPSEC VPN using AH and ESP together
I was under the impression that when you use IPSEC, you choose either AH or ESP for encapsulation, with ESP being the better choice as it uses encryption on the data . Yesterday I heard you can use them both at the same time, but I wonder why you would want to do this? ESP can do what AH can do plus encryption.

Passed 640-554 today.
Hello Everyone, I passed the CCNA: Security today with a score of 965/1000. I failed the week prior with a 832/1000. In my opinion, the questions aren't that bad, but you have to know the CCP. There are labs on the CCP. I'm convinced if you fail the labs, I doubt you'll pass. You have to know CCP. In my experience, the…

The price is what?!
The cost to take this cert is $250?! Are you kidding me? I thought these add-on-to-your-CCNA tests were like $125, so I was budgeting for that. Holy moley, if I don't pass the first time, this cert will cost me at least $500 - half a grand. The Saudi Arabian oil minister could learn a lot from Cisco about price gouging.

STP root port two path tie
I made this for me. If it helps you too, good. The curriculum did not do all that good of a job of reinforcing what happens when there are two equal-cost paths back to the root bridge. Router Ping-Pong Confusion
What interface dose the ping command uses by default if a router has multiple IP interfaces inducing loopbacks. I understand you can select source and destination using the extended ping commands. Thanks

Multipoint Frame Relay
So I built my own little Multipoint Frame Relay lab. Figured I'd share. Attached is the drawing. Frame Relay Switch note: pay less attention to the specifics of the hardware/controllers, S0/0/0:0, S0/2/0, and S0/3/0 are Fractional T1 with integrated CSU/DSU and RJ jacks, S0/1/0 is the first interface on a two-interface…

To save on heat generation in the lab, I unplugged the switches from the 2811 and 2801, and to re-light the interfaces I used little Cat5e loopback…

Routers and RAM
So I'm asking because around those Internets I'm finding conflicting information- some sources say that IOS images that call for more RAM can be made to boot with less RAM than Cisco calls for, but when I attempted it I had some errors. Basically I'm trying to get IPv6 support working on some 2600-series (non-XM) Routers…
